Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain & Ground Zeroes

PC version of Metaru Gia Soriddo Faibu Guraundo Zerozu was showcased in Akihabra today, it was presented in some nVidia booth that promoted 4K gaming. Not much is known about this event, some tweets suggest that game supports switch between 30 and 60fps, longer draw distance, better/more lights, multimonitor support and better textures. Tessellation was mentioned, but translation I saw is not clear if this effect is in or not.

You don't even need a high quality video, there are waaaaaaaay more reflections and light sources on PC. Also this highlights the draw-distance issue, hopefully that will be improved significantly in TPP. Everything else is pretty much the same though. Textures, foliage, models and shit.

Well the PC must have what looks like screen space reflections turned on, which is nice. The consoles don't have it even though they're very much capable of it.

Are those screens between the PS4 and the PC version off a newly released build of GroundZeroes for PC or has it been out longer? GZ has been out since a while for the PS4 - perhaps the missing reflections and detail is better in a more recent build of the definite game (TPP)?

Or are these screens off recent builds of TPP?

I blieve Ground Zeroes is a very recent release on the PC. They announced just very recently the PC requirements. The additional lightsources and reflections are a significant addition. I see also some additional detail in the distance on the PC version.
I wonder if the PS4 can replicate the same upgrade withought killing the framerate smoothness at 1080p

Entire game and new engine were made on PC, they talked about it a lot. It is totally not a surpise for me that KojiPro has made PC version best looking.

Kojima has already proved that he does not care about forced parity. He openly marketed visual/framerate differences for Ground Zeroes before launch. I like that he is open like that.

Nvidia uploaded the comparison of PS4 vs PC version with a list of features.

http://international.download.nvidi...-zeroes-pc-vs-playstation-4-comparison-2.html

  • 60 FPS frame rate
  • Additional deferred lights per scene
  • Additional shadows per scene
  • Higher-resolution render targets
  • Higher-resolution shadows
  • Increased detail over distances
  • NVIDIA SLI Multi-GPU support
  • Options to adjust seven graphics features (Effects, Lighting, Screen Filtering, Shadows, Texture Filtering, Textures)
  • Resolution support up to and including 3840x2160 (4K)
  • Screen Space Reflection

It sounds like they added a lot but the only things i can really notice is better drawing distance, extra light sources and reflections. the rest looks almost the same.

Ground Zeroes is out on PC, and port is reportedly very well done. AMD users have some performance issues [nothing big, just framerate is a bit lower than expected], but this is Nvidia-sponsored game and new Radeon drivers will surely be released soon.

Is it me or have they improved the shaders? Damn looks so good at max settings. Ther engine does wonders with the lighting and materials even though the hame doesnt have very complex geometry. It looks almost real

It all looks so plastic-y still... The asphalt and the rocks look like they reflect light the same way as Snake's suit, and they look like plastic. So odd.

Nobody is claiming that this game looks totally realistic. FoxEngine has managed to come close to it, but it still has a nice art style with its visuals. Personally I am amazed how good the game looks [Kojima always manages to extract a lot style and detail from his engines].

Also, game is very visibly very much crossgen in some parts [rock geometry].

edit - just found this, reminder on the 1024x768 visuals of MGS4

In overcast lightning, the plastiky look is only visible on Snakes suit. Which is fine.

I think the game looks great in every lightning condition. :)
