This is one of the crashiest xx.0.0 releases in my recent memory. Thought I'd check whether it might be an add-on I have causing the crashes... but if I click Tools -> Add-ons it crashes

Safe mode seems to be what you need. You totally have a crashy addon.

FF has been garbage lately.
I recently moved to Opera 19 and find it stable and fast.
Another good Browser is SrWare Iron.
Both are based on Chrome 31 but I prefer the layout of Opera better.
I think I'll look for a Skin to make the default Chrome Layout of Iron tolerable. It's faster and more stable than Chrome.
