AMD Mantle API [updating]

The news feed is getting a bit ridiculous regarding this.. some tech support guy writes that the patch may be delayed to February, and whoops there is a "mantle delayed another month" all over the net. http://wccftech.com/amd-mantle-update-battlefield-4-delayed-dice-focused-sorting-game-issues/ http://fudzilla.com/home/item/33773-mantle-for-battlefield-4-delayed-again

The official battlefield update says that the next pc client update (last one was 3 weeks ago) which presumable includes the mantle renderer, may slip a few days into February: http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf4/forum/threadview/2955065219584248915/

And looks like repi pretty much confirms that mantle is included in the update: https://twitter.com/repi/status/427944204283961344

..So seems we can have something real to play around with (not the api, but at least poke at performance and limitations) this week :)

It's been pretty clear for a while that Mantle would not make it in January. I'd guess early-mid March. Talking about BF4.

At the same time you have AMD & Frostbite/DICE folk denying such and saying it's still coming in January

Fake promo image or is it from some upcoming demo? Previous one was so baaaad.

Would make sense to release am internally made Mantle demo, but it would only be useful if it had the dx11 fallback for comparison.

Given that both manufacturer tend to have demos for their new cards, it might be a Ruby demo (there was one shown at CES or the developers conference). Thief and BF4 aren't ready, or maybe you don't own the game, so a showcase of Mantle and TrueAudio might be needed.

Guys, welcome to previous page :) http://forum.beyond3d.com/showpost.php?p=1820941&postcount=866

i5 3GHz and you're there!
Yeah that bubble scene dropped to about 28 fps on my 3770 , but it got back up instantly .. the rest of the area I had about 45fps minimum. So I still don't see how the whole demo could average 38 fps!

That was in the days of the 7990 and was never released for public. Now I guess they changed the main model and possibly the script too. I gotta say though , these pictures look fantastic.

There's a new demo Ruby annonced in preparation since some month, looking what i have seen from it, could well be this demo. ( the street behind her was ). I have post here the links to the blog sometimes ago. http://community.amd.com/community/amd-blogs/amd-gaming/blog/2013/09/27/she-s-back-official-backstory-of-amds-ruby

The demo was not finished, dunno if the demo is better now. ( and if Mantle is included )

The Ruby demo was done for the release of the HD7970 by Illfonic, creators of Nexuiz a Gaming Evolved title and it's also rumored they will be working with Cloud Imperium Games on Star Citizen. CIG has hinted several times they'd be working with a team from Denver which is where Illfonic is based.

...
Yes, but I read that description few times over and it at no point says the measurement was taken during typical game play. So knowing marketing I think it might be static point, a so called worst case scenario just to demonstrate potential of new API.

The slide did also say "up to 45%" so that is probably a best case on that config. That said, repi and crew have been tweeting about some "nice gains" on high-end setup so we'll just have to wait and see.

It sounds like they've done something with multi-gpu, so that's one case I do expect to be significantly better (although likely not enough to make me care about CF/SLI :)).

PCPER got some performance numbers from AMD:

More from MaximumPC:

BF4 patch will come January 30th, at 4:00AM EST through Origin.

Starswarm will come January 30th at "roughly" 3:00PM through Steam.

Whitepaper primer on Guru3d:

Looks promising so far! :D

Edit: Dice just released their own benchmarks for the patch which is live now! :

So looks like AMD made a mountain out of a molehill?

http://wccftech.com/amd-launches-mantle-beta-low-end-cpus-not-gpus/

A 290x with a top end Intel CPU sees BF4 performance increase a maximum of 10%?
With a 260x the increase is of just 1.4%!

The larger improvements are for AMD CPUs and even then only 17.3% at the highest settings.

And then they showcase Star Swarm Demo to make a point, hiding the fact that this engine was built from the ground up to do precisely that. Mantle only came after.

It looks like they are just launching this now, to save face. They even say its Beta version.

Pretty sure if you read the articles it states 40% as the best case, not 17.3%
