False rumours & bannings, track records etc.

if they are a noob and have a "source" i would recommend ignoring them. In general all the people here who are respected for there knowledge dont require sources because they know all the details for themselves. once the boxes are released it will all come out in the wash these noobs with all there sources will be forgot about and the people who are currently highly respected posters will remain so.
There's no policy for banning people for rumours. This is a discussion forum, not a news site. However, crapping on the forum will not be appreciated, and if it's obvious someone is making shit up because they have nothing better to do and that's affecting the quality of the discussion, they'll be warned and then removed.
There's no vetting of credentials either; we respect the right for developers to go incognito, which can afford them a freedom in their contributions (not necessarily leaks, but just having an opinion on a subject without the iron-boot of the corporate overlords taking offence to them not parroting the corporate line). We have people arriving claiming insider info and presenting their arguments. It's down to the readers to decide whether to believe them or not.
And most importantly, if someone presents a rumour and is wrong, they aren't banned. This is because IT DOESN'T MATTER! There's no law against being wrong. It's a bizarre aspect to the internet that people feel compelled to berate those who are 'wrong'. If someone has cause to believe something, and shares that, and is wrong, so what? We're talking about CE devices here, not WMD and should we go to war, or whether to march on the streets engaging in ethnic cleansing. Nothing posted on this forum matters at all in the grand scheme of things, so people shouldn't get emotional about being right or wrong. If someone is proven wrong, the rest of the board are free to consider them either a jerk to be ignored, or an honest guy who made a mistake, from their post history.
The guiding light to B3D is a high signal to noise ratio. We want discussion to be meaningful and constructive and ideally every view to be discussed on its own merits (see for example the current XB1 rumour discussion that is willing to entertain the viability of 12 GBs RAM and an upclock, regardless of whether it turns out to be true or not). People get banned for being unpleasant or for creating too much noise (eg. Repeating ad nauseum a viewpoint that is categorically debunked via logic).
