DriveClub by Evolution Studios [PS4]

DriveClub Is 30FPS For The Same Reason Other Games Are, Director Says
Evolution Studios' PS4-exclusive DriveClub will run at 1080p and a regular-ass 30 frames per second. We've known this for a long time, but people keep asking them about it. So here's another explanation for why it's 30 instead of 60.P

It all comes down to, of course, prettiness. It always does, every time. But anyway here's the quotes.P

"It's a balance, because you can only do so much on any platform," game director Paul Rustchynsky told Edge. "PS4 has been fantastic to work with and we've done a good job of pushing it. It's always a tradeoff, ultimately, and I think we've made the right choices to make the best driving game we could have made.P

"I suspect a lot of people think we may have compromised the gameplay experience by choosing 30fps, but we've spent a huge amount of time minimising the latency between the pad and what happens inside the game so you never feel disconnected."P

I for one think they should bring it all the way down to 24 for that authentic film look and also so they can really ramp up the tessellation. Because if I sit down with DriveClub and the in-game steering wheel is not perfectly round I will yell loudly about it on the internet. That's really all I care about in games: round objects should be perfectly round.

Wow, this game just has excellent motion along with a phenomenal sense of speed:
I was watching the E3 direct feed/commentary footage and the british guy was talking rather fast.
Then the gameplay came up and I thought: no way is this 30fps :-S !!. I have a mac along with clicktoflash installed on safari so I thought the html5 video injector could be the culprit. I used a watch to measure the real world time compared to the drive club in-game timer, and it turned out the game and video were indeed running at 30 fps!!

compare this to other 30fps racers and it's obvious that evolution has an excellent implementation of motion blur going on

Looks like 30fps to me, though I don't deny the MB is pretty good.

You measured framerate with a watch? What?

I thought the video was played back at 125% or something, so compared the in game timer with a real clock: I expected in game time to move much faster because the footage looked like +40fps

I am really surprised this was not at Sony's E3 conference. I mean, this is thier biggest exclusive this year and it got no limelight at all. I was expecting a reunvieling and instead they just threw it away :( !

Saved for Gamescom ;-)

Racing games are not big in the US. Whereas Sony knows we yuropeens love us some petrol-headed tarmac-tearing goodness :D

Sony still has lots of other unannounced stuff to show, from their other studios. And They often hold stuff back from E3 to keep some nice surprises for both Gamescom and TGS.

As for me, I think I've seen all I need to see of this game to know its a day one purchase. I love me some early gen racers, so this and the crew are insta-buys for me.

Now I've moved into my new 2 bed apartment from my pokey one-bed flat in woolwich, I can finally realise my dream of turning the second bedroom into my gaming/racing dungeon :devilish:. Can't wait to experience this with a racing wheel in 1080p on my new 50inch Bravia.

Plus, Rushy mentioned on GAF that these videos are from their first post-E3 code, but now have implemented better AA for some game elements [power cables].

The IQ is insane... and the new weather system is just plain gorgeous to view.

Looking for an update here but was DC delayed again for these weather effects or will it ship and the weather will come at a later date?

Holy F**K  ! They had so much more legroom to implement this ?!?!?!
I mean, this looks too good to be true :p ! this is a game changer ! THe game looked good, but this...this looks phenomenal !

Man, I need more and more Money :devilish: !

More to come :
And what about really extreme stuff, like thunder and lightning?
Alex Perkins: Deafening thunder storms with flashes of fork lightning are what we’re aiming for. Our intention is to make this as immersive and exciting as we can.

How customisable will the weather be?
Alex Perkins: We want you to be able to create epic races that you want to share with your friends because they took your breath away. Just like we do with time of day, skies and time lapse speed, we’re going to add lots of options for you to be able to adjust how the weather plays out in your challenges. We don’t want to just offer fixed settings for “rain” or “snow”, we want it to be dynamic and exciting. We’re still working on how best to present this to you and we’ll show more closer to launch.

:runaway: ! I want this...NOW !!!!!

This game omg, the graphics is now in the "Legendary" tier in my book. The delay of this game has top be the most epic move Evolution has made.

Now take that engine and make another Motorstorm game, please. Imagine how cool a Grand Canyon setting during a thunderstorm with those kinds of visuals would look like.

Need some splashes or particles. Otherwise I agree it looks really good.
