Forza 5 [XO] *large pics inside*

I'm the opposite. FM4 and GT5 premium are at the point of diminishing returns. Just make new cars and port the old ones over. Who can honestly say they can see the difference?
There are positives to the approach of updating the cars and having a single LoD for all the cars in the game.

The 200 something cars in Forza 5 are Autovista worthy now, and fully Autovista compatible.

In Forza 4 only a bunch of them were showcased using Autovista.

If you are paying an important amount of money for a brand new game and a new console, why not enjoy it to its fullest?

In the end, I brought that point up because the ideal number of cars for me would be something around 40-70 cars or so.

It's just that I am used to play car games featuring a few cars and it was so exciting to unlock one.

In Forza 4 I have barely driven like 5% of the cars, and I felt overwhelmed at the amount of cars I had at some point, most of them untouched. I got to level 57 or so. I usually drive my favourite cars or try to purchase them in the game.

I'm not sure what Autovista is (some sort of Kinect show room?), but if it made them start over it sounds like a bust. I have like 400 cars in GT5 and have driven them all. It's not about how many cars you want to drive, but if the car you want is in the pool of existing cars. With 50-70 cars you are going to be severely limited on what is available in each category. If it is a game about modern super cars, then yes, 50 super cars is fine. But if you have to cover 80bhp cars up to 1100bhp with all kinds of variation in-between then 50 cars is not nearly enough. Then there are classic cars, historical models, etc. You can't have too many cars IMO.

I hope they will have DLC car packs like they did with Forza 4 because there are some cars that are must haves for me like this one.

Also since they have the X-Bow hopefully they will have my other favorite car the BAC Mono as well.

I had never seen the BAC car, it is really nice and it is a street legal car, which makes it even better.

The only flaw I could see is that without a protective shield it doesn't seem to be the best car to drive in a place like England. My best friend is from there and the weather... you know how it is.

The sound of the car featured in your first video is what would sell me on it. I guess it is a DLC car..., sigh, if it was included in Forza 4 I will try to find it and *buy* the car with the credits I have.

Two new videos:

There are specific moments where this one looks surprisingly photorealistic

This other one doesn't look as photorealistic, but still okay

Autovista is a feature where cars are showcased in great detail. You can see every fine detail of the car, get in the car as if you were there, and you can see things such as gauges, the internal engine, the dashboard, in almost perfect detail.

It is featured in one of the videos I shared in my previous post.

Changing the subject, in regards to the total number of cars...

Personally, it doesn't bother me, but I understand what you mean. Your post about sums up what is so compelling about having many cars. I like to specialise on a few cars and if the amount of cars is too high and end up dismissing most of them.

I see some benefit in the variety of cars, as people have varied tastes too, and it helps the franchise to cater to everyone. The Mario Kart and Ridge Race approach works well for me for the excitement of unlocking something new and not so easy to get.

For a game focused on the community aspect or for those who like variety -i.e. my brother loved one of the cars in Forza 4, a BMW from the 70s, which I would never fancy if he didn't-, it is a good thing. I just hope they made it more thrilling to get a car, even the simplest one.

I can't believe it has only 200 cars and 14 tracks.

I think they could have just used the car select screen models from FM4? They all looked pretty damn good and with the upgraded lighting and shaders in the new engine they'd look perfectly fine.

And they have very few normal (slow) cars either, and I like driving normal cars.

Oh well, Forza 5 was the main reason I was considering getting a XB1 so at least it's made the decision of which console to get much easier. I'll probably wait til FM6 to pick up an XB1.

I thought the day one update added more tracks?

Anyway, I fully expect them to try and add tracks through DLC to extend the life.

Yeah, they will, but I normally don't buy DLC.

I hope this doesn't become their strategy to milk more money from players though - release the game with 200 cars and have them fork out more for the other 200.

Hopefully, FM6 will launch with a car library close to FM4 levels.

I don't think its milking so much as wanting to have a AAA racing game for launch and the timing associated with doing that. F6 will most assuredly have more cars and tracks as they would have had the time to create and update those assets. And releasing a game that will sell well now, helps to fund those efforts. From strictly a development process point of view, I like the fact that they actually ship on a consistent two year cadence. It makes the game better. These things are technically never done, but IMHO, shipping helps keep product focus.

Not sure how many here remember Forza 2, which was the first Xbox 360 effort, and while it was pretty bad looking back comparatively to what followed; I'm glad it was there for me to play during the interim to Forza 3 and GT5.

F2 only looked rough compared to what followed. It was a huge improvement at the time, going from 480p@30Hz in Forza on XBox to 720p@60Hz in Forza 2 on the 360.

It also had a much better physics engine, many more cars (especially high end sports cars/GT prototypes) and awesome multiplayer (someting T10 managed to completely ruin in F3).

Cheers

I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt because it is a launch title, and all the cars are originally created for the Xbox One.

With the launch of Project Cars looming next year and a Gran Turismo title in the future I would really want a Forza game that adds meteorology and day/night cycles. -c'mon night racing was present in Forza 1 for the Xbox-

They will release a 10 car pack each month for 12 months, plus the day one LaFerrari 10 car pack; basically the same as Forza 4. This is a bit dubious though since the each pack now cost $10 vs the current $7 packs, and the season pass option which gives you the first 6 months for $50, is still fairly expensive. No word yet on the cost for an individual car, but I'd guess it's going to be around $2.50 vs the current $2.

It's argued this cost increase is due to the enhanced, more difficult nature of the capture process, since every car is now of autovista quality (ie. opening and closing hoods, doors, more detailed, etc.) but still a hard pill since the game comes itself comes with such a relatively low number of vehicles and tracks. Word on the street is that there will be a track pack as well, perhaps as early as Jan.

Thanks for the info. I wonder if they'll have custom car packs where you could choose your own cars in a bundle and receive a bundle discount?

Anyway a new video.

Yeh unfortunately the BAC Mono doesn't have a visor/windshield. Would be nice if they offered an optional removable one instead of requiring a full face helmet for street use. The car in the first video is the rotary powered Mazda Furai concept/race car. It sounds amazing in real life...unfortunately Top Gear destroyed the car during their possession.

Interesting article on how the Drivatar system works.

There are many different Drivatars in the game, some of them based on professional racers, others are created from unexperienced newcomers.

You also have the choice of racing against your friends' Drivatars, well, actually they are always pulled into a race, regardless of the fact that they are a difficult lower or higher than you.

Thanks for sharing, Rudecurve. I shall watch the videos later. I gotta go.

Btw, Turn 10 confirmed that one of the Drivatars is The Stig.

Very realistic lighting.

The lighting looks okay, weren't for the lens flare. The sound of the video is what I like the most. That's the SHAPE slaving away.

I pre-ordered Turtle Beach surround headphones, to make some justice to the console.

This console is the "ruin of Palmira". :smile2:It's a saying in my maternal language which translates perfectly to English.

When people here say something is like the "ruin of Palmira", it means that they spend a lot of money on it.

My grandmother used this saying a lot. My mother too.

The ruin of Palmira refers to a Persian princess who lived before the Middle Ages, in time immemorial.

The ruins of Palmira are probably the archaeological remains of her possessions/city.

I really want to try out those rumble trigger. They could be pretty nifty in sports games (other than racing) too.

Even then, 1) you'll squint, and 2) there's no lens flare! The sun will be bright and everything else will be nigh black, at worst, but the light doesn't smear across your view as a huge white patch (with extra, numerous coloured blobs). It's the obsession with representing first-person games as viewed from a video camera that boggles me.

I agree with Shifty, from watching the vids the amount of lens flare is ridiculous.
Far worse than JJ Abrams overuse of the effect in his Star Trek films since Forza is interactive entertainment so not only is it in bad taste, I'm sure it'd get infuriating when playing (especially in darkened rooms like I do).

Then again Turn 10 always seem to have art problems with their games.

The lense flare actually doesn't look that bad to me. You see it the most from behind the car view and only when facing the sun. Compared to real life it's actually easier to see and drive. Back at my old job during my commute home at sunset the sun can be quite blinding so you have to wear sunglasses AND use the sun visor to actually see where you're going.
