Rumor: Blu-ray Licensing May Delay Next Xbox

The BDA is already working on the next 4k format and has confirmed they have looked at new tech.

The Blu-Ray format is old news.


The next format is most likely to use GE Holodisc in my opinion. The PC desktop space needs something like holodisc. GE has historically had a good relationship with MS.

That may be true, as far as future tech is concerned.

But today, and for next generation consoles (8th gen), BLURAY is still the proverbial reigning king, and will be for the rest of this decade.

At anyrate, I'm still curious if this rumor carries any weight at all.

If it were true they were having issues with licensing, which I doubt. They'd almost certainly ship the box with bluray playback disabled.
