But 'Sony' is a lot larger than SCE. They could never do a SquareEnix, as you would NEVER, EVER see the next Spiderman movie, or their new camera or anything else that they do released by Sontendo... Nintony... :runaway:
I was thinking of Nintendo only operating within the SCE domain, although the integral Sony vision should see crossover (gaming mobiles and tablets sort-of-thing). Not sure what Nintendo would bring to medical imaging or professional photography...

Oh come on, you're just not being imaginative enough. Medical imaging and professional photography? You could do what every guy has done with their 3DS; a 640x480 3D photo of their wife/girlfriend's boobs.

Because Nintendo wouldn't spread themselves for free.
Well that's a nice pie-in-the-sky idea, if you're a Nintendo stockholder at least.

Sony would be Nintendo's savior, an escape from dying a slow death of attrition. Sony doesn't lack developers making great games for their hardware, why the shit would they pay anything? Seriously.

one word, mascot.

Sony have tried to create a brand mascot for years with limit success crash bandicoot being the closest they've come, they get Nintendo on board they instantly got several of them.

Although its never going to happen. Anyway, increased sales would mean their not doing it for "free" anyway.

I don't think mascots matter any more. Don't think they've mattered since 16 bit era. Only Nintendo and SEGA had them, and others who tried failed. Given the broad depth of demographics these machines are aiming for/reaching these days, I think a singular mascot would actually be limiting regards marketing strategies. And Mario certainly isn't encouraging the masses to buy Wii U anything like as much as the mascot-free PS4 is attracting these pundits.

You could maybe say Master Chief is a mascot for Xbox, but he sucks, so whatever.

Mario is the video game equivalent of Mickey Mouse. No one else is going to recreate that.

What happened to the days of mutual mergers? Sony and Nintendo should shake hands and be friends, not one buy the other out. If Scotland and England can do it, Nintendo and Sony could do it. :yep2:

Of course, it's pie-in-the-sky thinking and won't happen, but for those thinking Nintendo will make less money, though true that they'd make less than their heyday selling lots of hardware, they'd be making more money than the probably will going forwards from now. The idea is both Sony and Nintendo make more money (Sony sell more consoles and games, Nintendo sells more games plus hardware sales because I see a merger and the hardware belongs to both), and both have a strong position to tackle mobile that's beating them both up and will likely only get worse.

A merger between Sony and Nintendo would be awfully messy given how different the companies are with Nintendo being a relatively focused video game companies (that also happens to be a majority owner of the Seattle Mariners) while Sony is your prototypical sprawling Japanese conglomerate. Another wrinkle is their relative market cap of the companies, Sony market cap is worth 2.2 trillion yen of which most is due to it's financial arm and to a lesser extent it's film and television studios and distribution units. That 2.2 trillion isn't much more than Nintendo's 1.7 trillion yen and it's going to be hard to convince Nintendo shareholders to sell without a sizable premium in cash which Sony doesn't have.

The only way that a Sony Nintendo partnership could ever work is if they formed a joint venture where both sides provide the JV their assets but provides a way to retain their IP. The more reasonable option is that Sony sells off their Game division.

Given Sony's game division looks to be one of, of not the, best division for profitability over the next few years, that'd be pretty much corporate suicide!

one word, mascot.
And what would change? People don't care about mascots. People care about great games.

Even Nintendo themselves is finally, slowly starting to figure this out, some in the company wanted Splatoon to feature mario, but sanity won out and the game now has its own cast of unique characters.

Chrissakes, Crash was AGES ago. A different era. Sony realized they don't need any friggin mascots. What good is mario for Nintendo when a majority of players these days don't care about mario games? He's been in HOW many games by now, half a thousand? Seriously, that's one over-used, worn-out mascot!

Nintendo has many "mascot" type characters because they usually recycle their game franchises rather than try to create new ones, probably out of fear of failure; after all, most new franchises fail, and Ninty is paranoid about failing, they hate that. Virtual Boy got buried in a virtual New Mexico landfill as if it never really happened, and so on. They're like, the most conservative, stodgy gaming company there ever was*.

*Speaking large companies here. An entity like id for example over the last quarter-century or so have made three wolfs, three dooms, four quakes and one rage. Not a huge diversity in games and characters, but they're also small potatoes in comparison.

[Still waiting for Sony to realize that Apple is not their real enemy...]

Come on, Playstation Now for iOS and Mac...

Make PS4, and other Sony appliances HomeKit compatible...

I dunno, when they see lines in japan for iPhone, then remember how iPod killed walkman's digital ambitions, Sony can't see Apple, which they supposedly considered acquiring in the 90s, as a partner.

That article says their mid level phone sale bombed so they'd concentrate on higher end phones. Guess which company that puts them in a collision course with?

TBH, sony did an awesome job themselves killing the walkman by totally spazzing out over music piracy (after making a killing on tape players all through the 80s and 90s) and making ripping music to your portable sony digital music player as obnoxiously painful and cumbersome as possible. Remember, sony is the company that put friggin ROOTKITS on music CDs to fuck with your PC and prevent you from burning music CDs.

They shot themselves good in the foot in the post-cassette era, that's why walkman is a two-bit brand these days that few if any except nostalgia freaks care about...

i dont know where to post this but...

if you are using REMOTEPLAY PS4+Vita and cant bear the lag although already using "Direct Connection", try disabling direct connection and connect you PS Vita and PS4 via WiFi. Or Vita WiFi while PS4 to LAN.

theoreticaly, direct connection should be the best but from my experience, it have worse lag than connecting PS Vita WiFi to Access Point to LAN Swtich to PS4.

@grall
not only their software is often annoying to use (not user friendly), they also often forgot to market their product and its crazy features. I think Sony PS and Camera division that have good marketing and software while the other divisions were awful (laptop, TV, smartwatch, walkman) and the smartphone division is sometime good sometime bad.
