How many console games have you bought this gen?

My game collection is as follows:

96 Boxed Retail PS3 Games

72 PSN DD PS3 Games (39 of those are full retail releases bought on the PS Store).

Of the boxed retail ones however i've played and finished about 95% of them. My DD ones i've yet to make a significant dent though.

Those are the ones in my posession however. As my twin and I regularly swap and share games, I'm convinced he has a few of my titles still in hand.

14 PS3 games, I got the PS3 for free with my Bravia TV in 2008. I guess 14 games is enough for sony to have made their money back on that. If not, well I have like 80 blu-rays.

X360, well I don't own one any more, but I still own 6 games, the others I gave away to friends but would guess I bought around 12 in total.

Now steam, I have 120ish games Must say I haven't played a console game in around a year now.

I dont even wanna start counting my list of ps3/xbox360 games because it would remind my how many games I should start playing or finish but due to time constraints I didnt...it probably would make me sad doing the counting

There is no should, I think. Not all games end up being worthwhile to play to completion (or even play at all). I don't think I'll invest any more time in Final Fantasy XIII for instance.

But I think there are definitely some games in my backlog that do deserve more playtime, especially some of the digital ones I got through Plus (Red Dead Redemption, Infamous 2 ... ).

Generally though if you have a big backlog, it just means you buy too many games and are wasting your money, unless you are a collector and just having the games is enough reward in itself ...

The numbers here really change interpretation of average attach ratio. I understand those are the mean average. If the high end are owning 30, 40+ games, there must be quite a lot of console owners with 1 or 2 games. I suppose 2nd hand doesn't show in the attach ratio.

I realized yesterday that I could not find Heavy Rain in my collection anymore. Maybe I borrowed it someone. I went out and bought the platinum edition for only 16 Euros new from Gamestop. This was the collector in me

But in my case it is the same: I did not complete every single game. FF13 is one of those.

I also switched to steam about two years ago and have now about 100 games (700 gigs). The number if non-finished steam games is way larger than my non-completed console game numbers...but steam sales is like an addiction.

I would say this describes my situation quite well. Bought a lot of games, but never got around to play them and now I hunt for good deals on games I want in my collection, just to have them in the collection

I buy games because "what if i'm bored one day and i wanna play a game?" A lot of the games i buy i come back to later, only the ones i'm really hyped for i play through all the way when i buy them.

Not if your backlog mainly consists of PS+ free games

That's why I love PS+ as every console gen till now i'd always spend my money wisely on buying a few of only the best AAA games throughout the gen, and then pick up all the lesser ones still worth playing in the sales towards the end of the gen or when they get dirt cheap (sub £20). This gen however PS+ gives me all those games for free each month, so I can focus my money on the big new titles each month, and dip into all the free stuff once i've finished those. Superb value for money, and frankly to this day I don't understand how Sony and third parties are making money through PS+, as if they are then it's the most genius system and form of "free to play" ever concieved. Well done Sony indeed.

Actually thinking about it, I've bought a metric tonne of DLC for those titles i've been given free through PS+. So perhaps the agreement Sony has with pubs is actually to give you old games through PS+ so that after having spent no money on the title beyond your PS+ sub (which is peanuts) you'd be more inclined to buy DLC (which is true for me). Seems like a brilliant win-win system in my eyes. Sony uses the subs to offset the bandwidth fees they would normally charge pubs for delivering games through PSN, gamers get free games and pubs/devs get the oppotunity to sell DLC on old titles without incurring any further costs on those games being distributed digitally. Awesome

I'm not sure how many retail titles I've purchased but having bought two of more than a handful of titles it might not be so distant from the digital number but I honestly don't know so I'll say >100.

I had 2 PS3's BR drives fail, and another destroyed by a lightning strike and have no purchased a total of 3.
