A number of my wife's friends continue to recommend crime dramas to her and neither of us like them as they tend to be more crime DRAMAS and more often than not pull random events/facts/clues/twists out of thin air. Basically if you don't care much for the characters there is little viewer participation in trying to figure out the crime.
Is there a series that is very clue oriented that gives a good spattering of evidence up front (enough to begin making educated guess--maybe even figure it out right away if you are very, very observant--but also plays up on easy hunches with misdirection), well written, etc? We don't have a TV and are pretty clueless. But we like a good crime mystery but after watching a couple episodes of Lost and Bones, well, those are less mysteries or crime shows and more dramas pretending to be mysteries.
