Last of Us [PS4]

I would like to know how this remastering fares compared to what was done with GOW Collection on PS3? It seems to me that in-game models got bigger improvements in LoU, GOW C saw a bigger resolution increase but LoU doubles the frame rate whereas it remains the same for GOW C.

The frame rate in PS3 GOW C is a lot more stable than the frame rate in the PS2 games. The Vita version is expectedly crap though (SCE do not give a shit about their Vita ports....).

Not that I’m a 100% sure, but I think they’re supersampling at 1920x1200. The aliasing that’s visible in the pictures, are similar (gaps/steps) to those presented in the Lego’s Movie PS4 game. I’m guessing a mixture of FXAA and SSAA are at play.

If it's supersampled, it's supersampled at 4320p like my edge analysis showed, at least in the vertical resolution.

I hope to modify one of these picturse with some annotations to point out some of the technical improvements. I would like to know how you guys are able to tell what is PPAA and regular AA.

As expected, some copies of TLOU Remaster have started to appear in public [stores selling games early]. Here is first batch of gameplay screenhots, sadly some are compressed even down to 160 KB [all signs point all are PS4 share button screencaps]:

Great texture work and IQ! Cant wait to play it. [but still, those screens from PSBlog were downsampled bullshots]

next to the ps3 version: only better texture filtering stands out. both at 720; the difference is relatively small.

this is maybe the best looking game ever created though :p
but it's clearly the same game (bioshock infinite ps3 vs pc ultra was what i expected :( )

I dont agree. In prerendered cinematics, differences are small. But at gameplay sections, PS4 version destroys PS3 version in term of texture quality, LOD and antialiasing. Plus, double the framerate [in some places will be tripple because PS3 struggled with rendering often].

Why do I think that the material shown in the last comparison is spoiling something? :???: I haven't played the game yet, and it looks like something I wasn't expecting to find in it.

By the way, I rather prefer the more blurred aspect of the flames in the PS3 shot. :p XD

The shot with the flames and the firetruck?

Someone just spoiled you on the introductory chapter, sucker!

Ps3 version also calculated some of the lighting in very low resolution. (1/4 or even 1/8)

The perception of TLoU remake is imo quite interesting:

1) lots of people can't see a difference, although the screens are now 1080p with effects also rendered higher resolution => it seems, that resolution really doesn't matter.

2) no one factors in the double fps. Of course, this is difficult in screenshots => Insomniac Games are right, 60Hz does not help selling games and improving their perception.

So, Crytek were right. Ryse it is.

Interested to replay this.

They added new audio options:
http://www.behindgames.com/new-last-us-remastered-image-showcasing-advanced-audio-options/

the game will auto configure the audio options for your setup to give you an awesome sound.

Also in the options you can configure the surround speaker azimuth which is used to give the impression that a sound is coming from a specific direction.

The PS3 version also struggled in some areas. And it was a little buggy at the beginning for me.

Nice... very nice indeed.

I see the improvement, but if this were Xbox One vs PS4, then people would be saying that it's a decent port, and perfectly fine on Xbox One.

With this I mean: in no way can you see that there is a generational difference.

As I said: this is probably because TLoU was one of the best looking games ever created; regardless, so no harm intended towards this excellent 10/10 AAA game that will be unrivalled for years IMO

edit: this is when looking at the scaled down image
