Crysis 2 PC edition OT

Finished the game. Kind of have a lot of mixed feelings about it, but overall I don't think it was as good as the first.

Also for how much they talked about the story, I actually thought the first one was better. I did like the sequel's it's just it kind of felt paper thin at times.

Oh and

the ending was hysterical. I can understand Prophet's mind or whatever became linked to the suit somehow but why the hell would Alcatraz have Prophet's voice (unless the nanosuit voice is talking)? That said I thought it was kind of cool though, especially considering we do sort of play as Prophet the whole game without even knowing it. Oh not even a single mention of Psycho, Nomad, or what happened after Crysis 1? Lame...

As we reported yesterday, PC pirates were able to play online on the official servers. Not for long however, which will definitely bring a smile to those that bought the game. According to Cry-Tom from MyCrysis, Crytek is preparing a patch that will resolve a lot of the post-launch issues. It will also include some improvements to Crysis 2′s security. These updates will be made available via automatic-download later this week.

Do not confuse this patch with the rumored DX11 update. There were some rumors that it would be released today but we can safely say that it won’t. After all, Crytek twitted yesterday that this DX11 update will be coming soon. Now if it was going to be released today, the company would have said that it is coming tomorrow instead of ‘coming soon’. Our guess about DX11′s update release? About half a month from now!

There's only been one patch, and you can't have the Steam version without it.

Crysis 2 Textures Are 1/2 Size of Crysis 1 – Proof:

The first Crysis represented the benchmark of PC gaming when it released, but with Crysis 2 also on consoles, the game has been watered down – so much in fact, that its resolution is lower than that of the original Crysis.

There's more to graphics than just texture resolution. The lighting, image quality and postprocessing in Crysis 2 is much better, and so is the performance.

Image quality is a factor of resolution and AA so the only real comparison point there is performance. But the two are very different games so performance isn't that comparable either.

Crysis 2 has nothing on the huge open levels of Crysis for example. From what I've seen, lighting aside, Crysis still generally looks a lot more photorealistic.

Also...there's much more to textures than just texture resolution.

You have to admit though, some of the textures in Crysis 2 are irritatingly low in resolution and/or needed a detail texture layer on top....

Edit: and yes, POM, my most missed feature from the first game *tear*

So was the case with Crysis.
There were a lot of textures that were awfully low res,

And there were worse examples... the rock textures, they were all awful:

and this is with Rygel's pack:

Imo the consistency is much better in the 2nd iteration.

Only if you want to spend most of your time looking at the ground instead of fighting aliens and commando units...

No really. I just compared both games texture packs and it's fairly even though Crysis and Crysis 2 shares some textures and Crysis has a few of them in 4x the resolution.

Heres the catch though. Crysis uses far more tiled detail mapping layers on surfaces to give more detail and overall more consistent detail upclose and at distance. Ofcourse some might be cancelled out by SSAO + shadow falling onto texture only allowing color texture to be visible (SSAO with normals is in C2 to fix this). Anyway Crysis 2 should have done more of this to as there's really quit some textures that standout badly and several of them are in your playing path/hiding spots. Else it's alright as at a fair distance they look detailed.

Also Warhead's texture res is superior to Crysis 2 and Crysis.

Crysis 2 works faster because it is less demanding.

That's it.

So what are you trying to say? What about UV mapping?
