Ryse: Son of Rome [XO]

Yeah seems to be. Also i noticed one other thing, the models look different (hair, and gold chain) although it could be during different time frames in the game. Found a shot with a lower gamma:

Edit: Interesting that the wrinkles on the forehead look the same, just lower-res in the second shot. Higher AF, or the lod culling method they use? One is closer than the other.

The forehead looks pretty bad in that shot top screenshot with a clear line of where the dots end.

That's not what we call facial hair (which would be beard, mustache etc), it's "peach fuzz". Although there could be some more of it... ;)

Damn impressive if they have it working in the game in real time.

They had something kinda like it in Crysis 3 on Psycho, but in much lower quality.

That's just good old stubble :) Peach fuzz is much more dense and softer, and it's also there on women.

Dang that looks insane. I wonder why they don't show any snow scenes?

If this is indeed real time...then imo best looking existing game out there.

Puts all PC games to shame...and at 900p to boot.

Can't wait to see the next vidoc not to mention the next XBO game to use this level of source art in conjunction with CryEngine.

Anyway I know not everyone likes MS for various reasons but damn you gotta admit when they put the right people behind a project the results are insane.

Wow, the skin (liver spots and all)... And the very diffuse shadow play on the old guys face.

And that chain on the necklace is definitely 3D there. :D (taking a potshot at the huge is it 2D or is it 3D necklace discussion earlier :p).

Regards,
SB

I can't wait to see how UE4 is going to look (with Black Tusk and Fable) if Crytek can do this already with Ryse.

I actually hate the concept of this. The combat this is based on was real, people being killed and tortured for entertainment. Even though this is fictional representation, I can't disassociate from what really happened. Every cut and slice and kill and burn is matched with a real cut, slice, kill and burn that really happened - it's almost like a window on the events of 2000 years ago. Which was such a sick abomination, I don't really want to watch it.

This crosses the threshold for me. It's not like a war game with shooting being a mechanic and screams being a funny recording by a voice actor, and a clear moral (if questionable) basis in the combat. Nor like Assassin's Creed where a casual murder of a soldier is an extreme slapstick. This is in the realm of torture simulators, reenacting the worst of human behaviour for kicks.

The combat for the story I can understand and have no problem with, but the MP gladiator combat is in bad taste IMO.
