ARMA 2 Operation Arrowhead

I've just looked at this game for the first time. One of my favorite games is Novalogic's Joint Ops, for its big maps, bullet drop etc and creative play, though it's pretty simple.

I will probably get this game and have seen reviews and vids, but have a few questions:

Arma 2 or expansion?

How 'free' does the play feel? Are the maps Battlefield BC2 size, Original Far Cry size, Joint Ops size? How managed by leaders etc is your play? Respawn or wait an hour after a death?

Do you feel like you're confined in a system with walls everywhere? What sort of group play dynamic is there? are required to be assigned to a squad or small sub team? Can I try to do a one man sniper flank? Are you walking most of the time?

And finally how hard is it to find populated servers?

Thanks for any answers. :)

Maps are HUGE, as for the rest it depends. Best COOP game there is.

You do want OA. Best to buy the DVD "combined arms" version, over the Steam version.

I now have an Arma 2 box. I like the boxes...My thunking was that (due to a stalled 6870 purchase because of my motherboard shorting), and my slightly anal need for graphic settings, the 2009 game is more inline with my pc spec...plus when a few paychecks from now if things are going smoothly I'll have a 6870 AND Arma 2 OE, plus they'll get another sale.

I'm addicted and still at boot camp. This game reminds me of what pc gaming is about for me. Love the ten page key list and the game manual on its own damn cd!

My main question now is, HOW healthy are online populations in each game?

ARMA 2 midweek madness on STEAM (80% off)

ARMA 2 is 80% off

ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead is 40% off
ARMA 2: British Armed Forces is 40% off
ARMA 2: Private Military Company is 40% off

i hope at least someone will like the value for the price [cool]

Hi Dwarden. A while ago on another forum I asked you about stereo3D support and whether it was ever going to happen. You said you thought should be possible with the current code and you were going to ask someone at work about it. You never got back to us to let us know what the situation was. As it stands, 3D doesn't work.

In what way does it not work ?
I havnt used 3d in a long time but it was just a driver toggle and 3d was enabled (ok so some games had problems because they used trick like a texture instead of a 3d object ect)

we would need some good report on this

feel free to add ticket to Community Issue Tracker (CIT)

here

i assume this problem applies to A2: OA 1.60 and TOH engine 1.03 (Take On Helicopters has some new tech but main core is shared with OA)
(ARMA 2 version 1.11 is too old to get any new features)

Stereo 3D is also getting native support in DirectX 11.1 afaik so question is if it's not redundant work
depends how big the problem is - hence good report can help to get it solved
