DC Universe Online ???

In the first place, the whole concept of dressing up in colorful suits to indicate you have special powers is weird. Wild animals need bright colors to advertise that they may be poisonous, superheroes don't really need that (See Batman, Invisible Man ). May be they think by making themselves easy to spot, it's less work because criminals will moderate their behaviour.

Then again, superheroes were invented when N. America was in deep shit. So may be no one cares if Superman was (still is) wearing his pair of bright red thongs outside when he could tackle huge problems. The artists probably thought that he needed a colorful characters to brighten up the dull, dreadful real world too.

So today, to fix the problem you complain, you'll have to take it to the comics world first.

Also, have you been to Folsom Parade in San Francisco ? I think you underestimated the shock value. We had to wheel our Asian friend's old mother away quickly coz she nearly died of heart attack there. She demanded her son to return to their country with her after the parade.

Superman the first Super hero was in the 1938 so I don't think we were in deep shit. I think the rest of the world was getting into deep shit.

Anyway characters like batman have dark costumes cause they are guys in an outfit with no powers. If batman gets shot he is dead. Its actually his excuse for the bat symbol on his chest. He explains it that its easier to pad your chest with kevlar than your head.

Superman and others that bullets can't hurt use bright colors so that they are attacked instead of others.

I played the game for awhile today , its not bad at all but it isn't great. Its better than champions online.

Superman is not the first super hero. According to articles like these (http://www.tfaoi.com/aa/7aa/7aa769.htm, http://edition.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/books/03/18/superhero.history/index.html and others), they thrived in the The Great Depression and the early years of WWII.

From your own link

"We were just emerging from the Depression," Robinson recalls. "Superman started in 1938. Batman started in 1939. So, we were just recovering."

Superman was the first super hero. Before him it was all mystery comics . In fact DC comics is named after thier first comic series Detective comics but batman wasn't in this comic untill years later.

He came out in 1938 so i guess it all comes down to what we consider the end of the depression

He's talking about his times. but there were others ahead of him: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Shadow (He wasn't colorful though).

Funny considering i was just at a panel about the history of super heros and they never once mentioned the shadow as a super hero. They did talk alot about Superman being the first super hero and thus how super hero got its name.

Prob cause of this from your link

The Shadow has been adapted for the comics quite a few times, the first appearing in late 1940 as a syndicated daily newspaper comic strip offered by the Ledger Syndicate

Superman is the prototype for many of today's superhero.

well regarldess lets stop argueing in this thread ,we can take it to pm's but the first super hero was superman. The shadow was a radio show and a pulp novel magazine.

If you disagree i will continue to disagree through pm

Superheroes do not exist exclusively in comics only. The Phantom (1936) also predates Superman.

The Shadow has been featured in comic books, comic strips, television, video games, and at least five motion pictures. The radio drama is well-remembered for those episodes voiced by Orson Welles.

I'm not the one who made this up. Someone else mentioned that superheroes comics thrived during The Great Depression over NPR. And I read a few articles that say this too.

New York Comic Con 2010 Live Blog Transcript (DC Universe Online Panel):
http://www.newsarama.com/games/nycc-2010-dcu-online-live-101009.html

I was at both panels. The first one was a normal panel , the second one was special. we sat at tables , they fed us hot dogs , ice cream , open bar. Then we had a qa that was basicly what we did at the other panel , almost the same exact questions. Then we all got posters that two guys signed (not jim lee) and vip keys and then we got to go. It was okay. nice that we didn't have to buy $4 hot dogs and $8 beers tho.

been playing it since e3 nyc and it just stinks. Its not as bad as final fantasy online that just came out , but its bad. Its inbetween champions and city of heros . Hopeflly they delay it again.

Bounty PvP missions are now available. These missions can be received from Bounty and Wanted Posters outside all Nightclubs and Police Stations by players’ level 10 or higher. To complete them you have to defeat five players of the opposing faction, no more than five levels lower than yourself. Every hour a system message will announce which faction has turned in the most bounties in that city and once every 12 hours, a daily city winner will be announced.

Controls:

Bugs:

Multiple Gender and Shape Changing Bug Fixes:
All localized text related to a character will use the gender of that character's unchanged form. For example, Jane, a female character playing as Batman in a Legends simulation doing a /shake emote will show up in the chat log as "Jane shakes her fist."

Shape changes that automatically switch to male or female versions based on the gender of the person being changed will now use the unchanged gender, instead of gender of the current form they are in, so the evil toy shape change on a female character will always be the girl toy form, even if that was used while in a male form (like nature gorilla or wolf forms).

The correct, unchanged gender will be used when adding a new style of an item to a character's style list.
Female characters reverting out of a male shape change form and not wearing a shirt over a skin type that requires a bra will correctly wear the sports bra.

Fixed a bug where male characters not wearing a shirt reverted out of a female shape change form and incorrectly tried to force them to wear a sports bra. Because of a related bug, this situation used to cause a server crash.

You can no longer send mail to yourself.

Items:

Fixed a bug where a vendor would either not let you repair a damaged item from your inventory or would appear to leave damaged items in the repair list after doing a repair all (though the item would actually be repaired).

The tokens used to purchase battlesuits are now called “Marks” instead of “Brands.”

Some items now use different styles.

Vault gifts now have a small chance to award Vault tickets and Marks of Distinction.

Fixed purchasable items show as can not be purchased

Some style names have changed.

Most precision stat bonuses on items have been reduced.

Some weapon styles have been replaced.

Normal NPC treasure drop rates have been adjusted.

Many items and styles have been renamed.

Items that are purchased with Influence and Marks now additionally require normal cash.

All iconic battlesuits should now have the appropriate origin restrictions.

The Greco-Roman and New Genesis styles are now available in the Vault.

Some race reward emblems did not award the appropriate styles, and now they do.

http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/21/dc-universe-online-enlisting-recruits-jan-11-in-na-jan-14-in/

Since being pushed to an amorphous "spring 2011" release window back in October, DC Universe Online has been given a solid launch date once and for all: January 11 in North America and January 14 in the UK. Sony Online Entertainment confirmed the dates in an interview with IGN, also announcing the game's $199 lifetime subscription price (a bit over 13 months worth of sub. fees). "We're going to be here for far more than a single year. We've got a lot of universe to build, and we're not going to stop anytime soon," game director Chris Cao said of the lifetime subscription pricing.

Cao also detailed an end-of-the-world event that will take place within DCUO before it launches in January.

Pretty buggy right now, but that's rather to be expected from an MMO. (Especially one they're trying to jam on the PS3.) Only one complete freeze so far, so it's got that going for it... right? :p

Haven't played a whole lot of it yet to determine the "it stinks" factor. It comes off pretty wonky if you're expecting it to act and play like other MMO's... it really seems to want to eschew that and go straight to "3rd person action/brawler." Which may well be the largest problem, because repetitive 3PA's with shallow combat are bad enough, but an MMO version will be super-repetitive, and housed in a template which doesn't even deliver a real storyline to go through, and is trying to extend your playtime to all hell and back, and...

FFXIV was pretty obviously a confusing shitpile right after you got past the first story arc, and so far DCO hasn't been THAT bad... It looks like you may have enough fun stuff to play with, but I don't think it's attached to a workable template. Certainly not one that's going to appeal on top of all the usual MMO annoyances.

Right now, I would mainly recommend it to mentor under the Joker so you can listen to Mark Hamill's voice acting. :p

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2011-01-24-dc-universe-is-soes-fastest-selling-game-ever

PS3 and PC MMO DC Universe Online has apparently proven something of a success for Sony Online Entertainment.

Commented SOE president John Smedley on his Twitter feed, "Working on out-of-stock problems for DCUO. It's our fastest selling game ever. Should have more inventory in Monday."

He also observed that the superhero MMO had shot to the top of Steam's best-seller charts last week.

At UK retail, the game performed well enough to enter last week's all-formats software chart at 10.

This is surprising to me:
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/114/1145646p1.html

Smedley did say, however, the PlayStation 3 version represents 52 percent of total sales, while PC makes up 48 percent. He noted the publisher is working on the "out-of-stock problems" currently plaguing retail.

"With over half of the sales coming on the PlayStation 3 it proves the market potential for MMO gaming on console is tremendous!," he said in a statement.
