Halo: Reach

Is there any word on supporting more than 16 player multiplayer? Im not thinking here in terms of the normal single player game, but when you've got a lot of vehicles you can't really spread your team that far if you've only got 8 players per side and 2 per vehicle for some of the ground transport.

No word, yet.

Unfortunately, if Bungie sticks to the reasoning they've handed out before, it'll continue to be 8v8. I'd love more, even 12v12, especially with the Falcon which appears capable of holding a Pilot + (1 or 2) Gunners + (2 or 3) Passengers

BTW, thanks Alstrong, now I'm going to have to go back and finish those two scarabs off in Legendary that way. :p

There ought to be achievements for what I did on legendary. -_- Though honestly, if you want to feel epic.... Easy.. and I have no shame on that. It really is pretty awesome with the music as you arrive on a tank or warthog and then board the hornet... the AI lets you land... the music is high tempo... you do your stuff on the first scarab and then you go back outside to get picked up... The music sells the entire sequence when you can pull it off like that. Sure it's tedious to do it, right? But when you finally get it.... daaaamn... feels good...

Hell, I'd be up for some Halo 3 Co-op (again) to do that. I've flown in the hornet a couple times. It's just awesome.

I'm really just hoping they'll capture some of that in reach and maybe make it less tedious (easier?) to do some wicked stuff like that. Those two hours may have tested my patience for all time (well, let's leave out Ninja Gaiden & Master Ninja out..................), but I think it's the variety of methods a player can employ to take down the scarab that caught my interest in particular.

Reach just screams for something at least as epic as being <7ft tall vs a giant enemy.

Found the Demo of HALO CE in one of my old forgotten folders. Fired it up to for memories, and , Boy, Is that demo still fun :D ! Its gameplay has not aged at all.
And at the end of the demo the Sargent's Speech is so damn Funny !

Dam now i must replay halo:Ce i held on to it because bungie said they planned something special for it not sure if its for Reach or something else maybe for a Masterchief skin.

Dam Aistrong im still stuck in the picture do whatever you like in halo but dont let the ai drive.
Because you know your either going to get stuck, going to die or it will ride of a cliff.

Got inspired by playing the demo, I installed the Game HALO:CE again on my PC. Man, the game can still compete with the new shooters out there. Still plays great, and thanks to good art sensibilities, it still looks great on PC ! Seriously, doesn't feel old at all. Very few games can manage that, and I must say I was expecting to be bored by it now that its so old n all, but it is still so much fun :D ! Heroic is what I am playing, Legendary would be too difficult for me, in a relaxed mood in which I am !

EDIT: Anybody knows how to force 1920X1080 res in HALO CE?

Have you seen the Halo Legends episode "Prototype"? It's an experimental exoskeleton with some mighty impressive firepower. I'd love to see something like that in Halo, where you jump in it and engage some scarabs (3+) on foot in the exo-skeleton. That would be epic... It's still quite vulnerable to heavy weapons fire, so you'd have to dodge and jink quite a bit to avoid being annihilated by the scarabs, but it would theoretically provide the firepower needed to take one down.

Isn't that suit the prototype for the mjornir suit that the spartan 2 wears.
In Fall of reach the marines used those suit because without them the spartan 2 children(after augmentation) would be way to dangerous. I want to board a covenant ship with a nuke and blow it up. The people who have read First strike probably know what i mean.;)

halo universe lore addict:oops:

Well, if the Mjolnir suit had an integrated targetting system, integrated gattling cannon, and integrated guided missles, limited jump/flight capabilities...yes. :)

Nothing like that in the Fall of Reach book, but might be in others, I still haven't had a chance to read any of the other Halo books. As a side note, the Halo Legends vignettes are supposed to be canon.

Installed Halo CE on my Vista x64 laptop, and it runs like crap during heavy areas. I'd use my desktop which has XP with Halo CE on it already but I see no reason to be pulling 400W when I can use this dead monitored lappy (which has plenty of gaming power) with my HP monitor and pull less than 200W. Anyone know how it does with XP compatibility mode?

Back to discussion...I'm actually pretty excited for Reach. There seems to be some nice changes going about while still maintaining the Halo feel. I do wish the game would make more use of actual iron sights instead of scopes with certain guns. The push towards a more tactical experience is something Halo Reach could do great things with, and get rid of the monotonous throw a grenade and rush the crowd of enemies with and automatic gun gameplay. It could open up the possibilities, force the players to make their shots count. Far Cry (the first one) and Crysis do a good job of this. And I know it'll never happen but it would be cool to get a PC version that is packaged with Halo 3 for PC. I'd pay $60 for it.

Spartans using iron sights would be a bit pointless since their aiming capabilities is directly integrated into they're armor.Besides, Spartans have vastly superior vision to that of a normal soldier so it isn't needed at all.Iron Sights would be better suited to be used by regular Marines and ODST's rather then Spartans.

Not sure how you play Halo 3 mp but I make sure that all of my shots count by shooting in controlled short burts instead of spray n pray..

Theres just something epic about the idea of not just one or two vehicles but whole squadrens of wraits and ghosts duking it out at once on top of the carnage on the ground. :D

Im just trying to imagine the implications of 16, 32, 64 vs an equal number of skilled and dedicated players.

But you still have to point the weapon......and vision acuity doesn't necessarily mean their spatial analyzing capabilities would be any better than the typical human. So still, in affect they need to point the weapon and would need some kind of hud symbology that would display the trajectory of a fired round or an "auto keep aimed straight in accordance with head pointed direction" function built into the suit, keeping it rigid (something similar to head mounted displays and gun turrents in real life attack helicopters). But such an idea I see more as a cop-out than a realistic explanation, but displayed trajectory on helmet visor and/or direct link with a camera sight on the gun would make sense and also give reason for a cover system where you could use such a capability, as that would be a major benefit of such tech. The idea has already been explored with the US Army's land warrior project, so why could it not be implemented by the year 2500?

I know I'm going a little to over realistic here, but I do like things to make half way sense when it comes to fictional technology. The aiming functions like with the pistol in Halo are more akin to using binoculars with a pistol than having a scope on the pistol itself (which it does not in the game, but maybe the camera? I doubt that....). Using binoculars with a gun held at the hip make little sense when you can't even see your weapon at all since your peripheral vision is pretty much non-existent.

Here is a really nice article from Eurogamer, the 4 times as many polygons is only for the character models.

Nevertheless, we can't recall the last time a sequel was sold to us so emphatically on the promise of improved visuals and scale above all else. The (admittedly wonderful) new weapon and character models are pored over pornographically, and the words "generational leap forward", "upgrade", "complete overhaul", and above all "more" keep cropping up. Four times as many polygons in characters as Halo 3. Particles in the thousands rather than hundreds.

You make a great and valid argument..Some people have noticed in the vidoc that Reach seems to be have some sort of cover system in place.I remember that Halo 2 was going to have leaning and peeking but for some reason Bungie took it out.Oh yeah, did you know that the Spartan Laser from Halo 3 was modeled after a real-word weapon called the Galleon Laser.I think I have the right name for that weapon..

That's got to be a misquote by EG. For the main characters at least, it looks much more than a 4 times increase.

Doubt it. Even if the characters in Halo 3 were just 3000 polys, which I doubt, it would still yield 12k characters for Reach. It's probably the better use of normal maps that gives a more polygonally complex look.

I have installed the full game now. Running it on Win7 64 bit, runs smooth at 60 fps all along ! It does dosplay a message when I start the game that my PC has Ram below requirements, though I have 4gb  ! But it runs fine in Win7. Dunno about Vista, might be a driver issue.
Also chk out the screenshot thread in the PC section for some retro gaming goodness of HALO CE on highest settings possible. It looks pretty pretty good actually. Only the character textures are low res, but the environments seem to have procedural bump maps which look very high res. The game Rocks !
