Win 7 Crossfire NOT working

Trying to get hd 4870 and hd 4890 to work in crossfire.

put 4870 in, windows picked up some drivers. put in 4890, it's not shown in device manager. Installed cat 9.8 hotfix, still no second card in device manger or GPU-Z.

Have you tried the other way around yet? i.e. let it detect and install the 4890 first.

For a 4870 and a 4890... doesn't it require more juice than a 600 Watt PSU?

did you have them working in XP? or Vista, or ever have CF on your x38?
If not you may need a MB bios flash for any CF to work. Was a issue back when the x38 came out.
