Battlefield 3 announced

As evidenced by Crysis back in 2007, even 30fps can look really smooth with good OMB.

Crysis doesn't feel smooth to me at all at 30fps, still can't work up enough enthusiasm to get past the first 10 minutes. BF3 looks great. Gameplay is very reminiscent of CoD. Don't know how I feel about that just yet. Maybe when I see some vehicle action and team based multiplayer gameplay I'll feel better :)

Seriously? Crysis looks smoother to me at 25fps than most games do at 40. Are you certain you were actualy playing at 30fps and OMB was on as most people tend to agree that it helps a lot. 30fps in Crysis is like butter IMO.

Maybe he wasn't playing in DX10 mode. At very high DX10 the game feels pretty darn smooth to me at 30fps.

Hm, the minimum requirement is not bad at all. I fall somewhere in the middle of the min and recommended (3.2GHz C2D, GTX260). Hope this rig can at least run the game decently at 1440x900.

That tank battle looks incredible.

Richard, judging by the comments on the BF3 blog I think we will still have plenty of 12 year olds to deal with :)

FAKE. We haven't announced any system requirements yet

So the whole blog is a hoax?

Anyway it's not too hard to make an accurate guess as to what the real requirements will be, and those don't look too far off.

Hmm... thanks for the heads-up repi. Was getting suspicious of that 15GB retail 10GB DD difference.

homerdog: unfortunately there will always be brats, plus brats with guns. As long as we can mute and then votekick them I'm good.

The specs might be fake but it'd be nice if the minimum weren't that far off, the lower they get the more options DICE have to make available for disabling then we'll get BF2's situation where enabling grass is a detriment to you alone. There ought to be graphical options clearly... this is the PC we're talking about but I think the bare minimum anyone could dial down should not turn the game into Quake 1. That is one advantage consoles have. Devs spend man-years turning a game into a lavish explosion of the senses only to have their work go to waste because someone wants an extra fps when he's already hitting 300: "But it makes it smoother!"... riiiiight.

Actually i remember a discussion on the Descent 3 boards where someone claimed you really need over 300fps for multiplayer in D3 along with a big load of mathematics to back up that claim
