test application

Hello mates!

i'm looking for a good OpenGL application to test a sw simulation of a gpu - and when i say i good i mean better than those silly opengl demos/redbook ...i need something hardcore - which utilizes vertex/fragment shading (and can ultimately give me a good idea about how well the simulation behaves - performance wise...)

- can anyone recommend something?

thank you!

Sounds juicy. How about Enemy Territory:Quake Wars, Quake 4 and Doom 3. Prey. Chronicles of Riddick.

i failed to mention i work only on linux, and ideally on freewares. so far i've been trying to run nexuiz (which is q3-based) , but so far i ran into some difficulties with the shader programs in nexuiz, but thats the general direction...

jawed - do all those you mentioned have opengl?
and davros: no. but i have heard of xxxmark for opengl and i think it costs money.

All of those are OpenGL as far as I'm aware (though I don't own any of them - but I have played the demos for most of them :D ).

Since the Quake 3 engine is open source (erm, not sure of the exact definition, licensing is complicated even when it's free  ) you should be able to find a load of derivative games/remakes etc. that fit the bill.

You could even try QuakeLive:

which has single player gaming, so you don't have to worry about public humiliation... Not sure when Linux support is arriving. But Q3's shaders are prolly not hardcore.
