During my reading of the 3dfx history, which was very concise btw, I got to the bolded part quoted below and was reminded of something I hadn't thought of in years.
Wasn't 3dfx suing Nvidia over some earlier patent infringement? Anyone remember what was going on with that, wasn't that case decision supposed to come down right around the time 3dfx was bought out?

3dfx sued nVidia first, then nVidia countersued I believe, can't remember exactly what patent infringement it was unfortunately.

Really cool idea for a site! I've always had this fascination with older video cards. If I had the money, I'd go out acquiring old products and benchmarking them for the helluva it

Most videocards aren't that expensive, they can be picked up from eBay for a couple of bucks if you are lucky. Others are worth hundreds, or even well over a thousand for the extremely rare prototypes etc. I've never paid such money, nor do I have money to burn. Most of the extremely rare ones have been given to me, which I'm very grateful for.

Due to the feedback received on the initial, tricky to use menu, I've changed the navigation menu from 2 drop down boxes to one. The main gallery is accessed by clicking on the "Golden Era" link from the "The Collection" drop down box.
From there you can select which year you want to look at.
Hopefully this will make browsing a tad easier and less confusing for newcomers, and easier to use. Please let me know if you think so.
I should be getting a lightbox soon, to take some more professional pictures of the cards.

I see you've got an iXMicro TwinTurbo 128. I have one with both Mac/PC BIOSes. I also have a Diamond Edge 3D 3440 (IIRC). I recall Panzer Dragoon bundled with the clunky Sega controllers. I am envious of your Geforce FX 5800 & 5900 Ultras. Surprisingly, I haven't come across any.

Ah that's excellent, is that the IXMicro Twin Turbo 128P8? I'm still looking for that one!
Also I would really love to have the Diamond Edge 3D 3400, with the memory expansion board. Is that the one you have?
The 5800 Ultra is actually quite difficult to find, and people bid quite a bit on it, remarkable for such a disaster. I just wanted to have it because it tells a story, and is crazy loud whilst doing so!

The 5900 Ultra isn't too difficult to find, but you need to visit eBay (or similar) regularly.
I've gotten a hold of a couple FX5900(NU)s. I certainly wasn't missing out on much. It's amusing in retrospect to read reviews of the era. The performance falloff from the 60.xx series to 80.xx series drivers with corresponding IQ increase is interesting. A very interesting architecture though. I think these had the last full hardware 2D pipeline. I wish there was more in-depth info available.

Probably, although I thought it was 4MB soldered.
As long as u stay with DX8 games and ignore everything but 5700/5900, the FX series is actually pretty nice.
I picked up a 5900XT->U on ebay a year ago or so. Played with it quite a bit. If you use Rivatuner, you can get some cool AA modes not in the CP. SSAA that R300 and friends don't do. I also played some Guild Wars on it and with the newest drivers the image quality is fine and performance is probably around a 9700P thanks to all that RAM bandwidth the 5900U has.
Doom3 of course runs rather well on them. I think NV put all they had into getting that game running as well as they could.
Not the best cards if you need any sort of heavy DX9 effects of course. Far Cry is painful to watch with IQ that's off and speed that's not so great.

Is this really a Glaze3D on the 1999 page? It seems unfinished, without the GPU if I see this correctly. But it was not all vaporware then.
Also, I wonder what this missing PCB part is.
I think I still have my Diamond Monster3D (3Dfx Voodoo Graphics) somewhere, but that is not nearly as exotic as most pieces in your collection.

An update is terribly overdue, I got married in June, moved house, my collection is in storage because our house is so small, and I'm been pretty much 100% been busy with doing up the house and building up my business to provide for my family. Things have been a bit difficult business wise, but the business is picking up, and we are a bit more stable, at least I've got work, which I'm grateful for.
I've collected a number of videocards since then, so I will have to do an update on them.
Apart from writing up on them, it's going to be very difficult to put them all to the test since I don't have them here.
Yes it is a Glaze3D, Bitboys never got silicon back for the Glaze3D, but they did have the PCB's "ready"
