First episode of the new Joss Whedon series was aired couple days ago. Star of the show is Eliza Dushku.

Was it any good? I think so. It got better in the end and for a pilot episode it was surprisingly solid.

I liked what I saw. The reviews I've read were mixed bordering negative, but I felt that, for a pilot, it was a job well done.
Also, I was plesantly surprised by Dushku. I had my doubts about her range as an actor, but she was great.

I'd have to disagree. I mean, I still quite enjoyed it, but I didn't think that Eliza Dushku was very good. She was passable, but there were definitely some moments, particularly at the start of the episode, that I thought felt rather forced.

I do have high hopes for the rest of the series, though. Should be interesting.

Decent enough, but didn't awe me.
Generic agent/pretender plot with The Island scenes mixed in.

Really didn't like her braindead dollface expression.
Some of the side characters seemed interesting enough, though.

I kind of liked her performance. I have to agree on the "braindead doll expression" though. Perhaps I was expecting much less from her. Sometimes it's great to have low expectations :)

The depth of Joss Whedon's series doesn't generally reveal itself in the first episode. Hopefully whomever is responsible for the airtime it gets is wise enough to let it run at least two-three episodes first. I was hooked before that point, but I didn't realise the full extent of the brilliance of the first three episodes of Buffy either until they were done.

I actually was one of the first to discover the Buffy series over here thanks to coming across it on the BBC when the first season was aired, and it didn't get popular over here until years later.

I do hope you're right. I have liked everything Joss Whedon has done so far, so I have rather high hopes for this series as well. It was certainly enjoyable and provocative enough for me to continue watching, even though I had some slight reservations about the acting in a couple of places.

Usually, however, as the actors and directors get comfortable with the roles, all that sorts itself out. Hopefully the series will last long enough for that to happen.

I think it's pretty boring. The only Joss Whedon series I've ever liked is Firefly, and it looks like it's going to stay that way.

The woman playing the Dollhouse boss woman gives a bad performance, the token nerd is annoying and I don't like the FBI-guy from BSG at all. He played some part in a NFS game and everything he does after that is coloured by that performance.

I thought it was ok, but it was incredibly annoying to me how they said
oh we can make her near sighted (by screwing with brain) fine ok, then suddenly they gave her asthma too? And the whole balance issue, like she needed asthma to balance her being splendid... ugh

I watched the 2nd one while riding the trainer so it was fine for exercise entertainment, but it certainly wasn't that great IMO.

I don't remember them saying anything about balance. Perhaps I blocked it out, but I thought it was merely because the original personality had those traits. As for asthma, I have no problem with the possibility a psychosomatic-induced asthma attack.

I did great with the spoiler tags didn't I ...

Oh well. I will give it another few episodes before I decide whether it is worthwhile though. And I can't say she seems ugly as hell, but whatever.

I know these things are subjective, but, ugly as hell? :???:

As you said, it is highly subjective. To me she is butt-ugly, I couldn't bang her even if you made me swallow a whole pack of Viagra. Totally misproportioned in my book, especially the face.

But hey, some people even find Britney sexy, so I guess there will be some who'll like this girl as well. To each his own ;)
