Splitscreen Co-op in Halo 3 with more than 2 players

Apparently there is a nifty glitch in Halo 3 that allows you to play campaign with 3 players on a single console, largely without problems.

The only caveat is that the game crashes whenever those annoying telepathic messages from Cortana (not Gravemind though) appear, apparently this is due to problems with rendering the video in multiple screens.

So only some levels are playable from start to finish, like Tsavo Highway and The Ark.
This listing of the in game messages may help figure out what levels are completely playable:http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Cortana/Gravemind_Moments

This glitch may be interesting, if you have wanted to play splitscreen campaign with more than 2 people at a time like me.

The glitch is also pretty easily performed, watch the following video

As I have only two controllers, can someone try this out, and see if there are any other issues (eg. framerate)?

Update:

Lastly, and more interestingly, there seems to be a way to extend this glitch so it works for 4 players. This video was posted on Youtube: http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=fAsZCd-9Ids&watch_response

However the poster didn't include instructions, so it could be bogus, unless someone can figure out how to do it.

I thought this was quite an interesting find, and shows how well the engine copes with 3 and even 4 player campaign splitscreen. Bungie likely chose to scale it back to 2 players, due to possible severe framerate drops in intensive scenes.

Good news, next Halo game is going to bring back split screen.

"Halo FPS games will “always have split-screen going forward,” calling the removal of the feature — and the ensuing fan outcry — a painful learning lesson for the studio."
