Image Quality and Framebuffer Analysis for Available/release build Games *Read the first post*

Namely, textures are far less crisp, and aliasing problems are far more noticeable than its other console counterparts. Most Wanted U clearly has that unmistakable “port” gloss to it – where the graphics don’t look bad, but they clearly don’t look as good as a game that was made specifically for the console. It’s not a bad looking game – and most of these issues are nitpicking, to be sure – but I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that the Wii U version is definitely not the best looking console version on the market.

This review says NFS visuals are actually in reality downgraded.. not what the marketing said

Seems like there's more shimmering in the distance on PS3 there, would that be the different AA solutions? It's hard to see anything else in the video other than the xbox feed looking darker.

After getting a better look at the 360 game it looks the same. Not much aliasing at all, and an option for turning off vsync/unlocking framerate.

I meant to edit my previous post but quoted it instead.

Do we have screenshots comparison?
I'm still debating whether I should get the PS3 or the 360 version since the PC version has no XP support.

Hello,

didn't want to start a new thread for this:

Some games are rendering at sub 720p or sub 1080p but still overlay their HUD/GUI at native display resolution. A great feature IMHO.

Why aren't all games overlaying their HUD/GUI at native display resolution?

Does it require more memory or something like that?

Upscaled games are already bad enough. But upscaled HUDs/GUIs make it even worse.

What is it with some developers and negative mipmap bias?
Soul Sacrifice seems to be using point sampling for most textures as well..

I've got a question and I've tried searching for it but couldn't find a definitive answer. Do original Xbox games get any IQ upgrade when played on Xbox 360 ? If so then how do they achieve this when the games weren't meant to run a different framebuffer in the first place ? Unless I'm missing something here and they instead do software emulation.

They can, yes. I'm not sure if it always happens, because there are case-by-case settings on the emulation, but a lot of games definitely have cleaner IQ on 360. The internet tells me that Halo 2 goes from 480p max on oXbox to 720p w/ some sort of AA on 360, and it definitely looks like that.

I don't know the specifics of the emulation, but it's definitely isn't anything resembling pure hardware BC, if that's what you mean.

The games definitely don't tend to function totally identically on 360 as on oXbox, at any rate. It seems like framerate usually worse (and in ways which don't tend to make much immediately obvious sense) and graphical issues are common.

480p games get 4xMSAA applied and are then upscaled. Halo CE/2 are no exception.

Haven't seen any definitive screen captures for games that originally supported 720p/1080i though.

Indeed. I haven't checked every game. Wonder if maybe there's some transparencies or post-processing affecting that (for Panzer), but tbh, I've only checked Ninja Gaiden Black, MechAssault 1/2, DOAU, Kingdom Under Fire, and Max Payne (no comment on Barbie Horse Adventures *AHEM*).

4xMSAA with 480p forward renderers would be an easy fit (9.375MB) for games pre-MRT though (32bpp, 640x480, colour + depth).

*shrug* I suppose we have the equipment now, but... 0.1% care factor. *ahem*.
