First day sales:

[PS3] Resident Evil 5 (Capcom) - 222k
[360] Resident Evil 5 (Capcom) - 56k
[NDS] 7th Dragon (Sega) - 60k
[PS2] Super Robot Taisen Z Special Disc (Bandai Namco) - 21k

Big sales this week for RE5, PS3 version will probably sell more throughout the rest of the week as well.

My first week estimate would be 335k PS3, 75k 360 for RE5.

For reference here are the first day sales for RE4:

[GCN] Resident Evil 4 (Capcom) - 117k
[PS2] Resident Evil 4 (Capcom) - 145k
[Wii] Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition (Capcom) - 27k

Good work! I think RE5 could be the biggest selling game of the year.

I think it's probably better to post monthly numbers rather than weekly ones as the stats:comments ratio is pretty far off

I'll keep the dates aligned with the NPD dates.

Was there a new PSP model/color released this week? As I don't really see a new game to account for the sales spike.

And the Media Create numbers for the week were...

PSP 59,568
PS3 39,835
DSi 32,102
Wii 16,560
Xbox 360 14,994
DS Lite 11,240

PS3 continues apace thanks to RE5. Wii almost overtaken by the 360.

What is going on with the Wii, is the interest really dabbing of like that? Or is there lack of units in the channel? And the PS3 numbers looks good if you compare it to DSi and Wii, unless they supply constrained that is....

PS3 sales have dropped off from nearly 40,000 to 28,000 so we'll have to wait and see if it continues to drop next week. Wii is selling quite consistently around 17,000-20,000 at the moment. Which suggests there aren't any big new games that appeal to the Japanese market being released at the moment (otherwise we'd at least see sales spikes).

The slowing of sales could also be partly due to the length of time Wii has been on the market without a price drop.

Yes, could well be market saturation at this price point.

Lack of games to drive it. Nintendo need to do something, but unfortunately it doesn't look like they have anything until Monster Hunter 3 which is much later in the year. MHG could possibly push it, but I have my doubts about MH series on home consoles; MHP does well because of the awesome ad-hoc co-op mode, but the Wii online service is terrible, the game would be much more suited to PS3/360 which have very mature online capabilities, but in a rare case it looks like Capcom made a bad decision (well two bad decisions, MH3 Wii exclusive and RE5 not on Wii).

I think we'll find the Wii unsaturated when the next Wii Sports comes out. And there will also be a ton of sales for the Motion Plus.

I wouldn't bet on that too heavily. Especially with the world wide economic downturn hitting Japan quite a bit harder than it is hitting the US.

Added to that I'd agree with previous comments that Wii is much closer to market saturation than one might think.

There will probably be some more bumps to sales, but I doubt we'll see any sustained significant growth for a while. Possibly when the economy there goes into an upswing, but even then I have some doubts.

Regards,
SB

Why would the Wii be near saturation? Are we supposing that the expanded market isn't as big as the core market? The Wii still has a good ways to go before it reaches PS2 numbers.
