Is it even possible to tape out a chip and then find out that the fab just won't build it?

I'm sure its possible if the choice to cancel 32nm came after the tape out. Tho I would think Ati has contracts with TMSC and this could open up the company to lawsuits if its even remotely true.

Didn't Huddy (was it Huddy?) say, that they'll have the best performing product for major part of this year after it was publicly known, that TSMC cancelled the 32nm node?

With a MSRP which is about the same as a standard HD5870, I don't think it's a good deal.
Of course, at least it makes a bit more sense than that gt220 with 2GB ddr2-800, but still...

I dunno. When I bought my 4850 1 gig friends all laughed and told me it was worth less. Now in many games thier 512 meg 4870 performs worse than my 4850 1 gig .

NDA will end tomorrow.

I thought it was for the Monday "after Fermi" (29th?) since the respective product information for the e6 was distributed a few days after the GTX480 info.

All in all, it seems like a 900/925Mhz 5870 (5Ghz mem) has to do against the GTX480, it won't be labeled 5890. This will also be a reference card.

Too bad if true. I think it would be a lot clearer to have distinct product names for distinct products. Something like the 260 with its different SP totals is just confusing IMHO.

How expensive will these 2GB cards be?
I mean, 2GB 1.25GHz Ram vs 1 GB 1GHz ... am I correct that atm 1GB GDRR5 costs AMD/ NV ~ 20-30$?

I think most HD5850 had ram chips rated for 1.25Ghz anyway, though the difference there is only 1Ghz clock vs. 1.125Ghz. The HD5870 already had its ram clocked at 1.2Ghz so they are likely still the same ram chips just clocked a bit higher (and in a x16 config, presumably). Those are premium products though so I'd expect the price difference to be quite a bit bigger than the additional cost of the memory chips.
