Gears of War 2

GEARSCOMP.jpg

to me Gears2 looks rather washed out

this is supposedly due to some sort of fake radiosity right?

I don't know what's so hot about it

Native size screen vs zoomed in or compressed will always look washed out

Have a look at the original

Also you can have a look at some pics I posted before with the differences in the character model

Edit: also notice that the lighting color is different and its hitting them from different angles, from behind in the gow shot and front in the gow 2 shot so its only natural that it looks brighter in gow foto.

not sure if its just the lighting or I think the texture definitely took a hit for the big scale open battle. Color pallet is still the same, except with different color lighting.

Funny... I thought Gears 2 had cleaner textures where comparable. i.e. characters & weapons. Looking at the comparison pics above, I see more detail on various sections of Marcus' armour.

hmm... the last time I play gears 1 was on PC with texture on very high, and I remember the Burmack looks very good when I fought him...

very close to this

But I think I just prefer the old lighting better, black color actually stand out more which remind me of all those PS3 vs 360 screen shot where everything on PS3 looks washed out. Just my personal opinion of course.

cuz Im bat S*** crazy..... lol, you're right, but its the only one a close up fight with the burmack which is what cought my eyes at first in those gears 2 shot

The blown up 2935x1684 image of Gears 2 doesn't flatter. Textures and model detail for the Brumak are much better than in Gears of War for Xbox 360.

I think the textures are just as good or better in Gow 2 for the brumak we need to see screens at the same distance and similar lighting to evaluate I think, the Brumak from Gow2 shows a hell lot more 3D detail though the chains on the Gow2 version are all 3D vs the 2D texture chains in the original.

The art direction looks great as usual, but I can't help but think it’s just the Unreal Engine 3 just more refined. It doesn’t give me that jaw-dropping “Awe” feeling it once did…

Thats only natural I guess, the same hardware the same engine only better but to be honest if they are able to pull everything off I'll be very impressed, by everything I mean a lot of locust on screen with individual AI a lot of destructible envoironmnets like in the tech vid, the "new" water in the game all that with better textures more polygons and smoother framerate at 720p and they've made my day and so did xbox 360.

New interview with Cliff Bleszinski.

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=189166

Epic's big sequel Gears of War 2, which almost cracked a grin from Tomonobu Itagaki during the Xbox spring showcase last week, is "fives times bigger" on the action front.

That's according to exceedingly efficient interviewee Cliff Bleszinski, who says that the second game shows just how much "smoother" the Unreal Engine has gotten.
"[Unreal Engine has] never stopped evolving," Cliff told CVG in San Francisco last week. "The character lighting is vastly improved, the environment is chippable and the tress get knocked down as physics objects.

"There's just so much shit going on, it's five times bigger this time. I think it shows the engines got smoother."

Admittedly, what we saw of Gears 2 was very impressive indeed (read the eyes-on report if you haven't already) - and it's definitely a shed-load louder than the first, with massive 'derricks' rolling through lush meadow environments, and the gigantic Brumack exploding from the ground to trample on Marcus and Co.

But just how has Epic managed to stick so much more action on screen? It's not as if Gears 1 was dragged out...

"It's sheer hard work, a lot of practice, having artists that are smart with where they spend their polygons and just getting the most out of the 360," says Cliffy B.
"Because it's not as if the 360's getting any better, it is what it is; a fixed platform. The mountain needs to go to Mohammad in this instance."

Look for the full Cliffy B transcript on CVG shortly.

Kojima is also a Gears fan. It's probably more acceptable to them than your average American FPS being in third person.
