..and then what? Redownload from steam? I'm not sure how I can get it to only patch up to a point.

You can downgrade the game:

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showpost.php?p=23441022&postcount=4

Dont forget to install the xblive-file, otherwise it looks way to bright.

You need news fonts too, to see your menu:
Copy both "fonts" and "fonts_r" into the "data" folder (contained in GTAIV\common) and overwrite

http://www.fileplanet.com/221303/220...IV---Fonts-Mod

Finally got the game running like I want, I deleted the FXAA part in the ini though, because I just want to use SSAA. (you can alter it by changing the value 0.7 -> 1.0 for the downsampling value 1.0= 2 times natives res (set the native res also at the same values as your screen )

Btw, the DeusEx enb mod makes the game jerky and it stutters.

FFS. I wish you'd have posted that an hour ago, I just deleted my GTAIV thinking I could redownload vanilla and apply a non-steam patch. As soon as I had done it I realised that Steam will just download the latest version straight away.

On my shitty connection it's going to be a loooong DL, and what with the BF3 beta coming up.... arg.

Great info anyway, thanks. Hmm.. although I have steam GTAIV I have 'Episodes' on disc. Will ENB be happy with a vanilla install of that? or even work at all?

I'm encountering this issue. I have the ICEnhancer installed, and it makes the game look awesome, but the brightness is way out of control. Where can I get that file? Also, is there some sort of config I can tweak? I haven't fooled around with GTAIV very much, so I'm sorry if these questions are silly.

I believe I have the version 0.99-beta1 version with Icenhancer 1.3 :

Also don't forget the fonts and to downgrade to version 1040, or it won't look right.

You can alter some settings mentioned in this thread:

Well, I'm not so familier with this engine too, but I finally got it right and it's worth the hassle I can tell you :)

The texture quality is really crappy but otherwise I think it looks damn good. Reminds me of HL2 visually, which is a good thing.

Yes, even the textures are nicely crafted, but just to low res. The game is a rough diamond in terms of GFX.
Hopelfully there will be a patch (or two) with some increased texturedetail and lighting.

Don't run at 1920x1080 what has been painted for 1820x720, simple as that.

You do realize this has been done in something like five years and that doubling the resolution of, say, the closest to the player 25% of the surfaces is as much work on top of it again?

The assets are already created at high quality they are just compressed into oblivion.

How do you do that, if I try and run a game higher than my monitors resolution I get an out of range error.

what model/brand is your screen? most of the 1080p screens should reach 2560x1440 easily and generally 2880, if you are lucky you may reach 3840x2160(4xOGSSAA).. my screen could reach 3840 but it's broken for me since 280.xx drivers..

these may help..

I gotta say the game looks ridiculously good in most of those shots.

Let me give you a dose of reality then! :)

from the [H] Rage sucks thread:

And there are loads more really really low-res textures in various screenshots.

without reading the links (will do in a moment) if a 1920 screen could display 2880 then when running at 1920 you'd have a 480 pixel border on each side, or the image would be scaled and scaling is something you dont want in a lcd

edit: read the links. you set up gpu scaling, then set the monitor res to larger than it actually is. then the game renders this res but the gpu scales it back down to your lcd's real resolution
if you set your card to not scale you would indeed get an out of range error
