Deus Ex 3

Loved the first one, but the second was not that great IMO... In fact I consider the first, one of the greatest games ever made. Given that, the second had huge competition, so my judgement isn't to objective.

Hrmm... this really is one game that deserves to remain on PC due to its complexity. Fingers crossed though, DX1 was one of my favourite games ever. I still haven't saved Paul yet!

If this is made by the BIOSHOCK guys i am all over it... IMAGINE BIOWARE on that one... this would be like... OMFG. anyway, might be worth a look if its anything like the 2nd one. If its anything like the first one.... oh boy.... instant buy then.

Most of the guys at this new studio seem to be cannibalized from Ubisoft off the PoP/Assassin's Creed/Splinter Cell teams. Or so it would seem.

It'll be open saturday for outside visitors (beign a new studio and all). I'll be checking it out, as well as visiting friends now there.

Does this concern anyone else?

"The studio is using the Crystal Dynamics Tomb Raider engine that was so handy in transforming Lara Croft's series into something people wouldn't be embarrassed to play as the foundation for the third installment of the popular series. The reasoning?"

Ugh  I remember playing the latest Tomb Raider game on 360 and thinking how unremarkable it was technically. I was hoping for a first person game like Bioshock.

Perhaps the next Deus Ex won't be a corridor crawler? The TRU engine can provide big environments... I don't think that Bios engine can do that...
I'm sure though that they chose an engine that suits their needs.

Final Fantasy developer Square Enix is helping out Eidos Montreal with Deus Ex 3, it was revealed today. Specifically, Square Enix is helping Eidos to develop the cutscenes and in-game cinematics.
While it may seem like an unusual partnership, Square Enix is apparently very proud to be working on the Deus Ex franchise and is keen to help Eidos on other IPs that are in production - Thief 4 in particular.
"The people in Tokyo are just so glad to work on it," said Eidos' Stephane D'Astous in a comment to Edge. "This is the first project for them that's a non-Final Fantasy title--they even want to work on Thief 4 too."
Square Enix bought out the UK-based Eidos earlier this year after the company fell on hard times and started looking for buy-out offers. While EA and Ubisoft were other contenders for the ownership of the Deus Ex, Thief and Tomb Raider franchises that Eidos owns, it was Square that closed the deal in the end.
News on Deus Ex 3 itself has been slow over the past few months, with an expect 2009 release date silently sliding out of sight while Eidos continues to work on the title. It has been confirmed that the game is a cyberpunk prequel to the first game though and that it won't be getting a console release due to the complexity of the game.

 OMG I can't believe we're getting Deus Ex 3 as a PC first game that doesn't have the console's lowest common denominators in mind. I'll be eagerly waiting for it. Let's just hope it's nothing like the second game. But then again the second game's failings were in it trying to better appeal to console audiences.

I thought I would have seen a thread on this in the PC games forum. But... uh, I'm completely shocked. I seriously didn't think we'd see any major IP do this this generation. Especially not from Eidos, especially not after they were bought by Square-Enix.

It hasn't been confirmed that it's a PC only game. It's the other way around, it's only been confirmed as a PC game so far, but it's 100% sure they're gonna release it on consoles too. Unless of course they want to lose money with it.

The website is just making stuff up for hits.

This is absurd. There are games that are "too complex for consoles" or "unsuitable for console audiences", but Deus Ex is not one of them. I can't fathom why Eidos would limit themselves to 3% of the market share* for something that is technically a shooter with a bit more involved upgrades and a conversation here and there. If Mass Effect can run on consoles, so can Deus Ex 3 - unless they've changed radically what Deus Ex means.

(The first Deus Ex is my favorite game of all time, and I've played through it three times, which is two times more than I've played any other game. I still liked the second, and didn't get all the hate.)

* - creative exaggeration based on the recent first-week UK sales of MW2, don't nitpick, try to see the point

(I liked the second game as well...)

Didn't include online sales... such could make a great difference. Although it would end lower than others still this number really isn't worth much as to "why limit themselves to.." buyer group.
