3.3 mil....wow!

And while Oct will obviously show Halo3 sales slip down a bit, I expect them back to past Oct numbers in Nov and Dec.

Halo 3 actually sold 2 weeks for this NPD (5 week month).

Edit: Whats really impressive is the almost ~50% attach rate for Halo 3.

Holy crap. Didn't think it would happen, but MS actually cleared 500k by a decent margin. Assuming we have the usual doubling pattern from Oct. to Nov. and again from Nov. to Dec., I wonder whether MS can parlay these sales to a healthy 400K for this month.

Only 120k for PS3 in a 5 week month? So soon after their big $100 price drop? Wow. I guess the $400 SKU really is Sony's last hope for this year, and I doubt it'll help much. On the plus side, having holiday sales around 1-1.5M would at least limit the losses for Sony.

Ouch at the playstation3 numbers.... They should have never launched at anything higher than $399 and looking at $299 this xmas season. Numbers like those will keep developers away from cell optimizing and insure bare minimum 360 ports if any.

Wow, those numbers are crazy. I'm seeing a very mixed batch of signals here.

First we have the Xbox 360 doing amazingly well. Halo 3 sold 3.3 million, and I honestly don't understand why anyone would be surprised by that number at all. We know Halo 3 is going to sell. We know it'll boost sales of the 360 by quite a bit. Having sold over 500K is no joke! I believe that's double the normal amount for the 360!

Then there's the whole Wii deal. The 360 came out with it's most freaking amazingly weapon of awesomeness to battle against the Wii, and all it did was barely put a scratch in it's sales. I mean what the hell? The Wii had NOTHING worth buying for the month! I was expecting at LEAST a 100K difference between Wii and 360 sales.

PlayStation 2 215K = 43k/week = 169k 4w (down 16.3%)
PlayStation 3 119.4K = 23.9k/week = 95.6k 4w (down 26.8%)
PlayStation Portable 284.5K = 56.9k/week = 227.6k 4w (up 50.5%)
Xbox 360 527.8K = 105.6/week = 422.4k 4w (up 52.7%)
Wii 501K = 100.2/week = 400.8k 4w (down 0.7%)
Nintendo DS 495.8K = 99.2/week = 396.8k 4w (up 3.5%)
Game Boy Advance 75K = 15k/week = 60k 4w (don't know, don't care :p)

Just added weekly and what a 4week month would have been for comparison to august.

Obviously everyone that wanted Halo already had a 360. :)

<edit>
August Numbers for comparison.
PlayStation 2 202K
PlayStation 3 130.6K
PlayStation Portable 151.2 K
Xbox 360 276.7K

Nintendo DS 383.3K

<edit #2>Added % changes for 4w period.

The Wii selling amazing hardware numbers but the casual wii demographic is buying games casually and 3rd parties aren't getting much love.

Last 4 weeks 400k, 4 weeks before - 300k, for X360.
And THIS is "amazingly well"?

Come to think of it, what exactly did the Wii have for the month of September? I can't think of anything 1st or 3rd party.

That's odd.. It seems that ppl buy Wii only for the console itself and Wii sports that comes with the console. It seems very few ppl buy software for it. Well, honestly, I have Wii for 9 months and I have never had any motivation to buy another game during this time.

That's funny. X360 is cleaning up.

At this rate MS will sell another 2 million units in the US from Oct-Dec. That's going to bury Sony in the US market. Sony needs software BADLY.

Remember when Sony execs expected the PS3 to hit 6 million by March '07 without any software? They haven't even reached 6 million period.

Weapon of awesomeness? ;)

What in the world does Halo 3/360 have to do with Wii? For Halo 3 to effect Wii sales, these systems would need to compete on the same plane of existence... and at the moment, they don't.

But what about that is odd though? I thought this was a known quantity for some time now. The reason people buy the Wii is in fact for Wii Sports itself - that title is the prime exemplar of the console's social/gameplay aspect. It was a genius move for Nintendo to bundle it with the Wii in the US.

The Wii is a more of a social activity than a gaming platform. You see people not even interested in gaming getting one. However, they like it for the occasional company over and go "hey! let's play some boxing" They're not actively involved with gaming. Titles like madden/mp3 still do not appeal to them.
