this very well may be the most complete console game experience of all time.

the list of features that are involved with Xbox Live, let alone the extensive epic campaign battles combined with the graphics, AI and controls are mind boggling.
Awesome!!!!!!! This is the best news I've had in years in regards to videogames, trust me.

I have a gold account but my connection is currently quite unstable - it was fine but I moved the router to a different location. I'll see what can I do to fix this when Halo 3 comes out.

I am not a PC man but I remember going to a friend's house and watching him play Diablo online. Darn, those parties were fun. Needles to say Halo 3 was a serious contender for GoTY but now this feature brings it much closer to that goal.

I followed the link RobertR1 did provide and the Master Chief fellow sufferers (or comrades in arms) are The Arbiter, N´tho `Sraom and Usze `Taham.

Bungie, underpromising and overdelivering. Great work!! --and something original in these Internet days.., there should be space for surprise and it barely happens.

Bungie, underpromising and overdelivering.

Hmmm, I wonder if it's intentional (brilliant PR) or just bad communication is happening at Bungie.

[edit]

I guess it could be that they don't want to reveal anything until they have nailed it.

Yes, but it's foolish to try and judge things like texture quality from such a poorly compressed vid. About the only thing you can judge is the lighting, which is just so good.

These look like Return to Proxycon in 3DMark06 (SM2.0 Graphics Test 1) with less light sources and more highlights on characters. The gunfire in the pic above is mapped on Master Chief and the floor but it ends there.

Probably these specular highlights on armors and vehicles are not cheap in terms of processing load since they were not seen in the MP beta unless they are upgrading it too, but sometimes it looks weird that they are shiny only on one side and the other side is dark even in parallel sunlights.

look weird when you look at the color of the sky or backgrounds such as rocks and trees, then look at characters.

looks more natural though it lacks next-gen-esque sexy specular highlights.

the light sources from gunfire were in the beta as well and they looked great during the intense gameplay.

Never once did I find myself saying, "oh man, that light source only extended to his feet... bogus!" ;)

To make it clear, what I'm referring to as not found in the beta is specular highlights on moving objects you can see when there's no gunfire. When I watched the E3 trailer I felt as if characters had their own invisible personal spotlights and are detached from the background. BTW I'm not sure if it has self shadows except for the gun and around the neck, if it doesn't it's a nice design choice with these highlights.

thanks for clarifying

Hm.

What's so special in 4-players coop?

Haze, for example, also will have this feature, with the same "combinations of online, split-screen, or LAN".

The wall and that red cone are also lit by the gunfire.

Different materials? It doesn't look that weird to me since other metallic objects in the scene have similar highlights. Rocks and trees aren't usually all that reflective.

Replace the Z with L and E with O, and you've got a much higher budget game guaranteed to sell millions. Who'da thunk that changing two letters could do so much? :p

Really, you couldn't have asked a more... odd question... like asking what's so special about single player since every other game out there has one too (except Shadowrun). It's about the halo universe, the story, fighting the damn dirty apes, the prophets, the Flood.... in the Halo universe alongside your pals (assuming you have more than one friend).

In and of itself, I suppose 4-player online co-op isn't that big of a deal. It's just that it was rumored that Bungie may not be able to make it work. Now that it is confirmed, almost everyone is happier than they were before.

Personally, after playing Gears, GRAW, and R6V, I think online co-op is a necessity.

EDIT: LOL @ Alstrong's Planet of the Apes movie reference! *Get your hands off me you damned dirty ape!*

I'm not sure if anyone is claiming that this is unique, people are just saying that it's f**k'n awesome... 'cause it is. A high budget game with all the bells and whistles is simply great news.

4-player co-op in of itself isn't so extraordinarily spectacular.
But does Haze have battles with 130+ participants? Honest question.

And in the end, Haze will still be Haze, and not Halo. Halo is the game I want to play with 3 other people.

Also, I will be kicking much damn dirty ape ass (hah!) with my brother and two friends. Even though we shall be separated by many miles, we'll each have a screen to ourselves...and the ability to stab eachother in the back at any time.

I'm so mad that all those years I was a PC gamer, co-op seemed to get thrown to the backburner when I really wanted. Now all of a sudden it's a hot item, but only on the expensive consoles, none of which I own. I guess I'll have to dish out and get me one of these things.

Shit.... This gets me... look @that background, the Sky is just... AMAZING. Looks like Volumetric Clouds to me...
