First Killzone screenshot/details? So says USAToday..

Pre-alpha would mean..not all features of the game are in yet. I think alpha means feature-complete. So, it's quite possible for a game to be pre-alpha, but also to be showable, playable.

Ya, pre-alpha I buy as a legitimate term. But pre-pre Alpha?? Now we're just getting silly.

I think he was just adding an extra 'pre' to emphasise their distance from alpha..I wouldn't over-analyse it.

Ya...some extra ass coverage ;)

Seems they are not totally confident in what they're showing today, which isn't what I expected for KZ's big unveiling.

Apparently this screen is of your character looking at a poster for the first game.

I don't know how true that is, but in a way it'd make sense...lower expectations before then producing something better on the day.

ROFL, it aint a poster, that was a fake ss. The devs themselfs have said that the lighting comes from the muzzle flash therefore it cannot be a poster (cheap photoshop work by the way of who ever did it!)! ;)

It's true that pre-alpha is feature-complete (our at least thats how the term is used at our studio)..

After they've been on this game for probably around 2 years now and I wouldn't be supprised if the majority of that time was spent doing pre-production, engine building and R&D and later prototyping..

As games budgets rise and development becuase more costly, you don't want to spend 2 years of pre-productino and development only to find that mid-way through your pre-beta schedule, most of the gameplay mechanisms/elements are either sh** or broken..

I'm pretty sure that any company developing something new and different on this kind of budget would have to spend a significant amount of time making sure the proposed game itself is worth developing.. Especially since it could become far to costly/time consuming to make any very significant changes later on in the development schedule..

Well, you could point at comments from him today suggesting otherwise. They can be confident AND honest about its status. I think he was asked specifically about the stage of development, so it was a direct answer to a question.. he wasn't volunteering that apologetically as an excuse.

No matter HOW a game looks, good, bad, otherwise, it's always worth remembering where it is in development, and how much progression is due.

They seem pretty confident to me. I mean they have a whole 2+HR conference dedicated to one game. What other game has that during e3?

In fairness, it's two hours of sushi, socialising AND killzone. There may be some play time too, and they probably need to give enough time for everyone to get a go, if that's the case.

There were comments in this thread how the timing of the KZ Demo (after MS) 'must' mean their confident it looks better than anything MS is showing.
Even with cgi fiasco and subbar gfx it can still steal the show with reasonable innovation.
I mean, it has to have something interesting, we'll see whether enough.
As for pre-pre Alpha, WTF does that even mean? Concept shots? Sounds like major ass coverage to me.

I like to think it is an honest typo or else he doesn't have enough confidence.

I consider 2005 trailer pre^6 alpha.

You sure? For software alpha is feature-complete.

True. I was just pointing out that this is probably the first time sony has ever isolated one game to it's own conference during e3. At a separate location and all. Sony hasn't hyped this specific game at all in the last 2 years, and all of a sudden they are sending out invites and building anticipation. I think they seem pretty proud of what they have to show off today/tomorrow.

But at the end of the day they are leaving it to us (us meaning consumers/press) to decide if it's up to snuff and acceptable. I wouldn't take any direct answers to specific questions on their forum coming from a QA tester as saving face for whats to come like you said.

But I wonder on what scale that will operate..a larger macro scale (i.e. the helghast controlling the elements out in the environment), or will it be like "they have a lightening gun" ..

This weather mention has tickled my fancy but I fear the latter of what Titanio has mentioned. I, of course am amped to look at great graphics (this is B3D people), but I am primarily looking for innovation. I hope for fluid movements and a fun gimmic ( a la gravity gun).

Is it really just one game ? I thought they may be following the Playstation Home + LBP communication model. The journalists may be getting a preview of what they are going to talk about tomorrow (Most of it). It gives them ample time to ask questions and clarify issues. They may need extra effort because PS3 is a frigging complex thing to understand and sell.

No doubt KZ is a highlight, but I'm sure Sony has a lot more to say. Two and a half hour seems long (even if we include network play for journalists). I'd be impressed if one game can capture their attention for the entire session. I mean these guys have a deadline to meet to publish MS's press conference stories too.

I always thought the killzone conference was tonight, and the sony conference (with ALL the other games) was tomorrow after the nintendo conference. Or am I wrong on that?

Well.. you're not wrong per se. I am not tracking this seriously. All I saw was this Helghast mask on the invite (probably as a teaser since everyone is dying to find out more about KZ). Was there any confirmation about tonight's official presentation content ?

KZ event is tonight, full conference tomorrow.

I guess there's an outside chance they'll show something else tonight also, ala the pre-GDC LBP/Home show-off, but the invites had Helghast all over them, so..

So, would it be safe to call tonight the Pre-Pre-Alpha Conference, tomorrow the Pre-Alpha Conference, and the start of E3 the Alpha Conference itself?

Most internet publications are calling the conference tonight the "Killzone Conference" right? There hasn't been anything to suggest there are going to be other games there, right? I think tomorrow is for everything else (LBP, Home, etc).
