Is PS3's scaler working now?

80gig is quieter?

To be honest I wouldnt be playing too many Ps2 games, but I dont want quality to suffer, or if I decide to pick up a game at EB, take the chance it wont work.

I'm guessing from your post that you guys have more accurate info than we do. In any case, thats the info we've been given so that's what we're going off of. I'm starting to wonder if us 3rd party devs are getting the shaft when it comes to being given accurate and timely info!

I'll assume that nAo is right and that there is nothing wrong with the hardware scaler. Now this makes me wonder what other incorrect info we've been given. If I find out two years from now that theres really 12 spu's in there, I'm gonna be pissed ;)

theres actually 13 ;)

assuming games like R6 Vegas, Darkness, NGS are rendered in 720p and scaled to 1080i/p using the 960x1080 method, how come some of them look ok at 1080i/p while others (R6 Vegas in particular) looks quite bad at 1080i compared to 720p?
There are PS3 games which have 2 sets of textures for 2 different rendering resolutions? I'm confused. So if you select 720p it renders 720x1280 and if you select 1080p it renders 1080x960 and horizontally doubles it?

Has the scaler been updated to do 2D upscaling? Or is that being done by the cell for 720p games now? Or are there 2 sets of textures and 2 different rendering resolutions for 720p & 1080p?

Thanks

Texture resolution has nothing to do with the output frame buffer resolution. I can run Quake 2 at 1600x1200 and Quake 4 at 640x480.

I realize that, I just thought that the texture detail could be optimized for 1080x960 as opposed to 1024x768. To avoid a stretched look. So texture resolution can't be optimized for specific rendering resolutions then I suppose.

Does this matter now? Are games being rendered in 1080x960 and using the horizontal scaler to upscale to 1080p for 720p games now; or are 720p games being rendered in 720p & the cell is being used to upscale to 1080p?

Thanks :)
