Game engine comparisons (UDF2, AC, KZ2 etc.)

I think you're right. Obviously Uncharted 2 sports pre-baked GI (which game doesn't nowadays?), but in the latest gameplay video there's also clear indications of SSAO.

    DACs in consoles

There's been a lot of crazytalk in certain audiophile circuits about the early PS1 revisions having spectacular audio outputs.

    PS3 OS Resources.

Indeed it does. Anyway, the memory requirements are way too high...

Atari's MIRAI console - based on ST..or SNK NeoGeo ?

I won't throw myself too far into this heated debate... But! I must stress that pretty much only the worst composers on SNES had that "canned sample" sound referred to here. The way to get good sound was to use waveforms only as long as one period of the sound you were trying to achieve, then...

Atari's MIRAI console - based on ST..or SNK NeoGeo ?

It's digital in its purest form! I do have a soft spot for FM synthesis, but in the more advanced form seen in for example the YM2151. Many of the best game tunes ever are written for that chip, with the classic AM2 80s sound as the most iconic examples; Space Harrier, Outrun, Power Drift etc...

Playstation 3: Hardware Info and Price

The weight surprises me the most. What can possibly get the weight up to 5kg? 3.5kg of pure copper for the cooling? Would explain the price as well... :)

    Global Illumination: (56k modem warning)

Maxwell Render is a fine piece of software indeed. However, it can easily require 24 hours, or even several days, on a 4xXeon rig before reaching a sufficiently clean solution to more complex scenes. So we're a couple of generations away from doing that kind of stuff in realtime.

My first post on beyond3d hello everyone

Hello and welcome to this fine forum dedicated to console technology, not games. ;)

What will Sony add to their RSX GPU development?

Yeah, who would have thought? Loose speculation and recycling of old/vague news is running a bit rampant here now. Just chill for a while, enjoy christmas, and turn the radar back on when CES is about to start. It's only about 2.5 to go anyway, if I'm not mistaken.

    Will Warner support Blu-ray?

I thought all this was about MPEG-2 versus H.264, though. For non-linear editing systems I suppose there's not too much point in switching from all these proprietery codecs to H.264. For any kind of distribution it does make sense to use a non-proprietary one, though. And here H.264 will...

    Will Warner support Blu-ray?

Featurewise, H.264 is completely backwards compatible with MPEG-2. That would render this whole argument largely pointless. As with every MPEG codec, encoders will take a while to mature -- so I'm sure there's a point in using MPEG-2 over H.264 right now where bitrate is not an issue. In time...

Does Cell Have Any Other Advantages Over XCPU Other Than FLOPS?

Actually a lot of the powerpoint graphics at E3 were pretty refined this time around.

Revolution Tech Details Emerge ( Xbox1+ performance, 128 MB RAM )

Except that the extra pixels rendered result in ample amount of antialiasing. Not a waste of resources at all. That said, I've yet to see how well the tv output circuitry handles the downscaling to 480p/i.
