    Power consumption for GPUs

Difference comes from the fact that nVidia measures(and limits) power consumption before VRM losses occur and AMD does that after VRM conversion. There's no 'lying' misinforming and so on, just different ways of doing measurements (there was a video that Buildzoid did on how Texas Instruments...

AMD RX 7900XTX and RX 7900XT Reviews

Probably the GPU gets so unstable that memory downclocks due to stalling pipelines / uncorrectable errors etc. Considering it's Jay, he probably did a slapdash attempt at OC'ing and it eventually got so unstable this weird behaviour appeared. We have to wait until the people at igorslab or OCN...

    AMD RDNA3 Specifications Discussion Thread

All of this is extremely workload dependant. In most AAA games my 6900xt (watercooled, limit set at 520W/475A) consumes around 350W (if fully loaded, which is hard to do at 1080p) while in Timespy it is usually well above 390W with peaks of 470W and higher. Clock/fps most of the times scales...

AMD RX 7900XTX and RX 7900XT Reviews

Depends on how the PL is configured. Typically less voltage you allow chip to use, more room is left for the current consumption to go up (as in P = I * V). That's why simply increasing power limit without increasing current limit does not amount to proper performance increase (Vegas were...

AMD RX 7900XTX and RX 7900XT Reviews

Not sure if it's a great competitor to $700 6900xts at newegg/ebay etc. Sure, they'll sell out soon, but I see no compunction to upgrade (i'll get 20-30% at best at 30% price premium and I'm playing on a high-hz 1080p monitor so performance would probably be CPU limited anyway)

AMD RX 7900XTX and RX 7900XT Reviews

1900xt-1950xtx you mean. I wonder how this thing OCs without power constraints (if old sppt tricks still work), it'd be interesting to see how it performs under no power / thermal constraints (i can easily make my n21 push 520W in furmark at 2.6 ghz and it runs at 2.8ghz in games with no issues...

    AMD Radeon RDNA2 Navi (RX 6500, 6600, 6700, 6800, 6900 XT)

Lets hope so, but if our resident leaker to be believed, AMD (and NVidia's) appetites are to grow considerably

    AMD Radeon RDNA2 Navi (RX 6500, 6600, 6700, 6800, 6900 XT)

Yes, you are completely right, I meant the autumn of 2020, when Ampere/Zen3/RDNA2 released

    AMD Radeon RDNA2 Navi (RX 6500, 6600, 6700, 6800, 6900 XT)

I'd say best we can hope is for the retail prices to return to autumn-winter 2019 levels (which were already higher than MSRP even without mining craze). There was a window of opportunity to buy a GPU in july-august of the last year (i've seen preinstalled waterblock 6800xt going for as low as...

    AMD Radeon RDNA2 Navi (RX 6500, 6600, 6700, 6800, 6900 XT)

Low load might come because of small tile size, if it's appliable to HIP version of the renderer. If defaults to very small CPU-friendly values (32x32 or 64x64, don't remember it precisely) and if you increase it to something like 320x200 it'd be literally several times faster than it usually...

    AMD CDNA Discussion Thread

I wonder how can we use 'superior' ML to solve problems where FP64 is a minimum required precision and a single error in Nth decimal place will make the equations unsolvable...

AMD: RDNA 3 Speculation, Rumours and Discussion

I wonder how, games steadily become more and more graphics heavy and gameplay-lite (especially AAA titles on consoles) Yeah, that's why you have to use denoiser and other tricks to hide the fact that there's a paltry amount of rays in each image. Which should not bother the people who buy GPUs...

AMD: RDNA 3 Speculation, Rumours and Discussion

As you said it yourself, there's "iterative development". I'd say let's wait until this "development" is fully fleshed out, because current games are definitely not 'ray-traced' as the people who yet again derail this thread claim for the upteenth time... Here we go back to the coolness factor...

AMD: RDNA 3 Speculation, Rumours and Discussion

Because it's cool? Something to justify spending extra even if I don't really need it. As a consumer, I don't see any reason to sacrifice a substantial % of performance (and I'm one of the "280 Hz gaming crowd) for a barely noticeble effect that can be faked in a way that was 100% acceptible a...

AMD: RDNA 3 Speculation, Rumours and Discussion

Can any GPU do full pathtracing for GTA3-level graphics? Even in Q2PT framerates are kinda iffy with $1000+ GPUs (and it's heavily denoised etc as far as I understood)
