    Windows 8 Dev build

So even if you program your Metro app in C++ and WinRT, you can't do normal sockets? That's the first time I have heard anything like that. Or are you talking only HTML5+JS Metro apps?

    B3D skin SLOW

Thanks for the hint of changing skin. The forum has been unusable quite a few times the last weeks because of the technet ads server not responding. (Using FF as well) I wish the ads would be pulled after DOM load, so we didn't have to wait on external ad servers.

    Formula 1 - 2010 Season

Might be entertaining to watch, but IMO last race has little to do with sport and is more like a lottery. There was some great racing and overtaking, but the sport and competition part just becomes a lottery, which is a shame IMO.

That is a pain when you need to backup user data though. I guess you would be okay with going through all your programs and copy the configuration files, but when you need to backup peoples data on a daily basis, I'm really glad that we can almost rely on just copying the c:\users\ folder. IMHO...

Have you tried the new "powercfg -energy" command (run from elevated prompt)? If I remember correctly it will report on sleep problems as well. That said, sleep doesn't work on my laptop either and doesn't work with Vista 64bit either, even though it is Vista certified. (When resumed...

Any way to make task manager autostart?

While Task Manager is nice enough, Proces Explorer has much more information for those that needs it. (And does a little debugging etc.) http://dl.dropbox.com/u/86148/ProcessExplorer1.png http://dl.dropbox.com/u/86148/ProcessExplorer2.png

Also MS has claimed for months that people will only see power improvements when drivers are updated. (Compared to Vista mostly.) I'd wait a few months before Id be too concerned about this and running at least RTM edition.

With 4GB and 8GB RAM, hibernation is almost as slow as a reboot on my machines. Sleep is cool on my laptop though and really fast.

I read about great performance improvements every where (esp. forums), but personally I think Vista SP1/SP2 was pretty much the same. I have been running the W7 RC from the day it was released and the first weeks it was faster, like all new OS installs are. Now with all my usual applications...

Saw Vista running under W7's Virtual PC on thelazyadmin blog yesterday, running with full Aero interface. http://thelazyadmin.com/blogs/thelazyadmin/archive/2009/05/22/virtual-pc-in-windows-7.aspx I assume that requires some hardware acceleration or at least DirectX 9 dummy drivers.

    Solid state drives?

I agree. The review I read didn't give any good explanation (I think) to why it performs this "bad". Slow controller chip maybe? Or the maybe the OS is somehow holding it back? (I which case I'd think HDTune should give vastly faster speeds anyway)

    The Power of the SBLive!

What I like most about that EQ, is that it is easy to make sure you don't boost any signal ranges above 0 dB. Most EQ's make it way too easy to boost the sound, because people think it sounds better, but it makes clipping much worse.

Setting the network setting to Host Interface and it "just worked" for me. (NAT didn't work I think)

A bit off topic, but VirtualBox only support some basic OpenGL 3D support. (Creating a virtual 3d card on the client that sends the commands to the real OpenGL driver on the host) Which ofc. means no Aero in VirtualBox. VMWare has better 3D support and supports DirectX 9 I think in their newest...

You need to select the template for one of the x64 bit systems (Vista 64bit, 2008 64bit) when you create the VM. (If you select "Other OS" it will run as 32bit) Doing that will let you install W7 64bit under Vista 64bit at least...
