AMD: Pirate Islands (R* 3** series) Speculation/Rumor Thread

Bonaire, Tonga, Hawaii and Fiji have XDMA CF, only Pitcairn (and low-end Oland) wouldn't have it. Faster tesselation isn't really needed below Tonga, while Hawaii already has 4 primitive pipes and larger cache for buffering compared to Pitcairn/Tahiti, so I guess it passes as "good enough" in...

AMD: Volcanic Islands R1100/1200 (8***/9*** series) Speculation/ Rumour Thread

What about 8 controllers equipped with 2x 4Gb chips and the other half with 2x 2Gb chips? Looks a little weird either way, though.

    Haswell vs Kaveri

C2-45nm has more INT resources per core and 3x as much L2 per core compared to AMD's modules. The only reason why Core 2 is not competitive anymore to newer AMD and Intel parts in several workloads is the FSB bottleneck. The cores themselves are still better than anything AMD has to offer in...

    NVIDIA Kepler speculation thread

Why? Even if it's really GK106, the chip is a bit larger and therfore slightly more expensive to make than Pitcairn, so why sell it for much less? The card will be roughly on par with 270X in terms of performance, so anything less than 189$ would surprise me, it would cut their margin more...

AMD: Volcanic Islands R1100/1200 (8***/9*** series) Speculation/ Rumour Thread

A lower launch price by AMD would probably just result in accordingly matching price cuts on Nvidia's parts, resulting in lower margins for both. The only winner would be the consumers in that case, but there is no real reason for AMD to wage an aggressive price war.

AMD: Volcanic Islands R1100/1200 (8***/9*** series) Speculation/ Rumour Thread

I'm pretty sure that's not the (main) reason. Tahiti's 384-bit interface was rather large due to PHY optimizations for high clocks. They probably figured that a 512-bit interface with less PHY optimization would fit into nearly the same space, while allowing them to install 33% more memory and...

AMD: Volcanic Islands R1100/1200 (8***/9*** series) Speculation/ Rumour Thread

By the way, regarding the thread title: I just a had a quick glance at the re-uploaded ISA manual of Sea Islands, and its description title is R1100_ISA.book, so Volcanic Islands is definitely R1200.

 Yeah, the censoring on that image is great. I have no idea which company that might be, there are so many possibilities...

AMD: Sea Islands R1100 (8*** series) Speculation/ Rumour Thread

Which problem? The OEMs probably don't care much what is under the hood, as long as it's cheap to buy, dissipates as little heat and draws as little power as possible, has some checkbox features for marketing and sells well. The vast majority of consumers don't care either, they wouldn't be able...

AMD: Sea Islands R1100 (8*** series) Speculation/ Rumour Thread

Who said that all Sea Islands GPUs will have the exact same IP level? Remember Northern Islands. Cayman was new VLIW4-IP, the rest was basically still Juniper-level VLIW5-IP, apart from very minor tweaks (AF bugfix and slightly improved tesselation performance, basically).

Looks like it. The sample computerbase.de had hit 1020-1050 Mhz almost all the time. A 993 MHz hiccup in Anno 2070 was the lowest clock observed.

AMD: Southern Islands (7*** series) Speculation/ Rumour Thread

That is indeed one aspect AMD hasn't touched for quite some time. Nvidia has had twice the Z/stencil rate per ROP since G80, and AMD stopped increasing it after RV770 for some reason. It's a bit strange, seems like a relatively low-hanging fruit to me.

I wonder the same. I doubt we'll see anything less than a 375W TDP.

Nope, 5870 is clocked at 850 MHz, 5830 at 800.

Who knows, maybe Charlie was right and GK100 is cancelled while GK110 is basically to GK100 what GF110 was to GF100.
