Hey, sorry to hear you're going through a rough patch. Good luck with everything, and I hope you find the room and time to keep the cards that you actually enjoy.
It really seems to depend on the care taken laying the mobo out. Here at work we have HP business grade desktops, and they all have extremely clean analog outs. I get less noise from the onboard than I did from the SB Live I used before we upgraded to Win7.
I think the variance you see...
The battery in that poor laptop only holds about a 30 min charge anymore. I loaded 7 after I got nailed by a Google Images search that rooted the machine, so I hope it will stay up to date and more secure.
We only use this laptop to browse the web upstairs, so it's not used a whole lot.
I run Win7 on a Thinkpad X31 that's a Pentium M at 1.3 ghz and 512 meg of ram. It's only slightly worse than XP was on that hardware.
I'd say for $20, give it a try. If you can upgrade the memory first, do that too. I feel that Win 7 is more RAM sensitive than CPU speed sensitive.
There's "my" old Warp5 still! I actually found the original BIOS chip from the card cleaning up my garage a few days ago. It's exactly the same except for running the card at 60mhz instead of 66mhz, so it's not really good for anything.
I never ran into anyone that had another Warp5, so I'm not sure there even is a newer driver in existence.
I don't remember finding any games that actually ran correctly on the Warp5, all had texture issues with the driver I had.
I'm sure the problems would have gotten worked out...
I got the card about a year before Metabyte released the Voodoo2 based Wicked3d, and stopped getting updates after 6 months or so.... I was quite disappointed when they didn't send me a Voodoo2 to beta test too.
I'm pretty sure the chip was dead long before ATI picked up the technology from...
Actually, AA is always on. Image quality on it, other than the texture artifacts, is amazing.

That's my original thread, from the last time I tried to get the card working. Tim is doing a MUCH better job with it than I did!
I still have my Mystique and my copy of Mechwarrior II. I wasted so much time on that game it was scary, it's always been my favorite of the Mechwarrior series.
