    Backwards compatibility

Can someone please explain to me why my PC can run Crysis and games like Half Life 1 from 1998, yet consoles like the 360 and PS3 need to use emulation? Am I missing something here? Does console technology really differ so much from generation to generation that it needs to be this way or what?

    Half life 1

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ogm4LTM6Po&feature=related Half Life on Dreamcast for those who are curious, and haven't seen it. Oh yes, and someone buy one of those N64 dev kits, and give this a go. :p I would love to see this.

    Half life 1

http://members.chello.at/theodor.lauppert/games/halflife.htm Yep, seems like you are right. I always thought it was a heavily modded Q2 engine as well..

    Half life 1

Since Half life 1 runs on a modified Quake 2 engine, and Quake 2 came out for the PS1 and N64, would it be possible for the N64 and PS1 to handle the game as well in some form?

    Who is right here.

So, who's right here? I don't mind if I'm wrong, I was just under the impression all you could do with emulation was upscale, and add stuff like AA and AF.

    Who is right here.

http://forums.gametrailers.com/thread/ever-wondered-how-wii-last-gen/770366?page=1 The guy in this thread claims you can run Wii/GC games in real HD through emulation, instead of them just being upscaled. I'm saying you can't do it, and you can only upscale them, and add other thigns like AA...

    Can someone explain this?

Now I'm aware that that is a PC screen, (I took it) but I get the same effect in the console GTA games, and in GTA 4. Why does this happen? AlMod Edit: http://img509.imageshack.us/my.php?image=16xaf1li3.jpg Sorry, I uploaded the wrong picture.

    Resi 4 Wii Edition

So am I right in thinking they just took the letterbox mode from the GC version and just stretched it to fill the entire screen in the Wii Edition? The game really does look washed out compared to the GC version, unless it's set to 4:3 in the Wii options first.

    Resi 4 Wii Edition

I compare the game in widescreen mode, to the game running in 4:3, and I compare it to the GC version of the game and it looks blurry as hell. I think it's because they took the letterbox mode from the GC version, and just stretched it to fill the entire screen. Am I correct in thinking this?
