    NVIDIA Kepler speculation thread

True, I´m still wondering though. If GK104 already can compete with an 7970 SKU with a die size of about 300mm², the big one without the interface bottlenecks, bigger caches and 1.5x (2x may be possible, too) ALUs would wet my appetite even more. Not in a hurry though, my 580 is keeping me warm...

    NVIDIA Kepler speculation thread

NV needs to absorb as much customers as possible from Tahiti and their target for GK104 was GF110+30% so if they were able to reach that with their current silicon is still up in the air. Now, it may not beat a HD7970 hands-down (maybe in some cases, and if it did, I would be extremely...

Well, first, you don´t always need that bandwidth, second, comparing architectures between NV and AMD gives me a headache, because comparing between NV architectures is already quite a stretch. You have to keep in mind that GK104 is NV´s answer to AMD´s "high-end" (insert a LOL here) ASIC with a...

Personally I don´t see any reason to upgrade from a GTX580 right now and it´s EOL since the end of last year. There is just too much going for it, still. GK104 is not going to change that and the bigger die is still some months away, sadly. If AMD really wanted to attract my attention, there...

AMD: Southern Islands (7*** series) Speculation/ Rumour Thread

Exactly. The first question should always be, what an IHV tries to accomplish. AMD wants at least 50% more performance through the bank, on some cases even way higher. Now, you should ask yourself, how can they get it? If you have a process that is still maturing and theoretically gives you...

    NVIDIA Kepler speculation thread

What´s most important is in the text. The graph might give you a false impression, because GK110 is barely above the GTX580. NVIDIA wants to avoid another GF100. However, since it´s a completely new architecture on a new process and there are some further changes ;) this is still up in the air.

The once mighty Abit, will be no more

I´m running a BE6 (i440BX rev.C1 chipset) and an Intel Pentium III E (Coppermine) 650MHz @ 825MHz and _never_ had one BSOD since 1999. I think that´s pretty good. I also have 768MB of only average quality RAM in there, which makes this even more impressive. Yes, that HPT66 crap always scared the...

    Graphics Chip 3rd Quarter Numbers

NV sells the produced and packaged ASICs directly to their AIBs, effectively making them their customers. Since Jen-Hsun stated himself that on the high-end all they are shipping now is 55nm, we can all pretty much put those INQ rumours to rest. The 9800 GTX and the 9800 GTX+ have a 12-layer...

    ELSA hints GT206 and GT212

AnarchX already pointed that out and I agree with that of course. What I basically was trying to get along is that NV´s next ASICs GT206 and GT212 need to be a lot more cost-sensitive, while both performance should be higher and power consumption should be lower.

    ELSA hints GT206 and GT212

If I´m speaking of complexity WRT ASICs I refer to the density and the amount of the transistors of the ASIC. Apart from that, a 512bit bus with a die size of ~300mm²? NV´s gonna need a lot of their magic fairys for making that possible. Exactly. Not dumb at all, kind of hard to make out...

Exactly the one I had in mind, yes.

    ELSA hints GT206 and GT212

Even tough it´s not a well kept secret that NV has to be more aggressive WRT process-node adoption in the coming months, I´m extremely sceptical that NV wants such a beast on the 40nm (40G) node this early. I´m not sure if NV wants to play the "delay", "bad margins" and "power consumption" game...

    AMD: R8xx Speculation

    That would make quite a lot of sense, but only if it were something like this: RV740 - 128bit - ~140mm² [1.2 TF] RV870 - 2xRV740 (MCM) - 2x128bit (256bit) - 2x140mm² (280mm²) [2.4TF] R800 - 2xRV870 (2xMCM) - 2x 256bit - 4x 140mm² (560mm²) [4.8TF] Now, packaging costs would be quite high, but...
