Predict: The Next Generation Console Tech

The cancelled chip was the successor to the PoweXCell 8i which is used in IBM's Roadrunner supercomputers. The Roadrunner is made up of Opeteron and Cell chips for compatibility with existing Opteron code that some of IBMs customers have. What IBM will probably do is to to combine opteron chips...

Current TVs and Upcoming PS3 3D

It may not be necessary to maintain the same framerate. It the brain averages out the images fed alternately to each eye, it may be possible to get by with half the frame rate in each eye without the brain noticing. Processing would presumably involve alternating between two viewpoints between...

Multiple attacks kill atleast 80 in Mumbai

I doubt if the Pakistani government (the recently elected civillian government that is) was involved in any way. However in the case of Pakistan, the fact that the civilian government wasn't involved deesn't mean that the Pakistani military or secret services wasn't involved. The fact that the...

Hypothesis of countries that can create consoles

The reason that Japan is so prominent in games consoles is the fact that so many big consumer electronics companies are based there (it takes a big CE company to successfully launch a games console), and just as important because to many games developers are based there. As for making games...

PS4 to be based on Cell?

Even if it doesn't provide fully immersive VR, I think putting a 3 axis accelerometer or a Wii type 3 axis control in a pair of 3D display goggles would be an interesting way of providing an extra control for aiming, view panning, or flight control while retaining the traditional control pad.

PS4 to be based on Cell?

I don't think 3D will be a case of ditching HDTVs. It will be a case of putting on goggles with two (non-HDTV) LCD displays built in, or else putting on LCD shutter goggles and sitting in front of your HDTV.

PS4 to be based on Cell?

Interesting. That concept could make a PS4 doubling up the PS3(2 cells, 2 GPUs and twice the memory) more likely. Such a machine could do standard PS3 games in 3D, and would allow development of new games which would run in 2D on the PS3 and 3D in the PS4, while at the same time running higher...

Intel pushing Larrebee console deal with Microsoft

In my opinion Intel is wasting their time talking to either Microsoft or Sony. They should be talking to Nintendo. Both Sony and Microsoft have multi-core architectures which can simply have the number of cores increased to give a boost in performance with full backward compatibility in dev...

Microsoft pays out 5 billion *kroner* in repair bills for the Xbox360

Has the claim that one in three Xbox 360 have been returned on warranty been made before, and would that be accurate? That is a hell of a lot and has to qualify as a serious design fault and one that has been allowed to continue too long.
