Being able to render 720p videos is different than being able to render 720p games.
Would be nice if PSP2 can output 720p or 1080p videos to the TV, but to play games at that resolution... I don't think the technology is there yet. Maybe in 2-3 more years.
The graphical power difference in PS3 was necessary for the jump to HD.
If PSP2 will have similar resolution with PSP, it won't need 80% the graphical power of a PS3. Unless Sony will include some TV out solution. But it's kinda crazy to expect 720p capabilities on a portable device...

This may be too late, but... you don't need a fast hdd for an HTPC. Cool and quiet would actually be better. You can get the Western Digital Green series cheaper than that, even better if you can get the older version (8MB cache instead of 32MB), it's a lot cheaper...

Unless there's new updates to the applications to utilize GPU power, rendering in 3D modeling softwares uses your CPU power. Even processing images in Photoshop uses CPU more.
