the enhanced programming guide and associated features only works in the US. Simply plugging in an hdmi cable and using whatever features the source device offers shouldn't be though

I don't know about the division, but while Smartglass 1.0 worked the way you describe (standalone html5 apps that communicated with the xbox over the internet through a limited api), the Xbox One iteration does support rendering the app on the console. It's described by vgleaks here...

Kotaku's report (based on the docs superdae stole) says games cant be played off the blu-ray, they have to be installed. Given that, it is certainly possible they're giving themselves the option to remove the drive in the future or from certain skus. The devkit does have a blu-ray drive though...

It's actually mentioned in the kotaku kinect 2.0 info, so yeah I think there is a pretty good chance it will be used for "clicks" in the new UI. That was one of the worst parts of navigating with kinect -- having to hold your hand for several seconds to click which is exactly what that demo is...

I don't see any reason to think Microsoft wants to build a DVR box, and with HDMI in why would they bother? You can connect your DVR to it. I imagine their goals are the same as GoogleTV/TVii -- expanding live tv with their services
