    Unreal Engine 5, [UE5 Developer Availability 2022-04-05]

If it would be one developer, than you can blame the dev. But it's pretty standard and probably 50% of demanding UE4 games had middle to terrible problems and it's not much better with UE5. UE is a great engine on the consoles, but unfortunately due to the stuttering problems it messed up it's...

    Direct3D feature levels discussion

It's good Direct X is moving forward and also Direct Storage is making progress. I just hope we will also get DXR 2.0 soon in the next year. It's frustrating that we don't have any progress here and Intel/Nvidia both already have architectures, which support more features, than DXR1.1 supports...

    Switch 2 Speculation

The T239 story is still pretty strange and there must be more going on like a revised launch shedule for switch 2 or whatever. T239, while based on orin, is a custom SoC never used anywhere else. First it was mentioned in 2021, the SoC should be available for mass production in 2022 or at latest...

    Switch 2 Speculation

A complete redesign of the SMs would cost much more than the small bits the tensor cores need. It makes no sense to leave them out, especially if it's based on Orin. They will have the same Tensor Core ratio as the other GPUs of the hardware gen they choose. Nvidia can probably scale DLSS...

    Switch 2 Speculation

I haven't heard it, i'm reading their financial reports. https://s201.q4cdn.com/141608511/files/doc_financials/quarterly_reports/2018/NVIDIA-Q4Y18-Form-10K.pdf On Page 73 you have the profit of the tegra segment before and after the switch. Additional information are in the quarterly revenue...

    Switch 2 Speculation

Nvidia kicking themselves for the switch deal? Lower margins than they normally charge? The margins Nvidia had with the switch were great for a console deal and much better than AMDs. The question is, why Nintendo accepted such high margins for such an old SoC. Despite the investment in the auto...

    Switch 2 Speculation

There's a difference in using an already established SoC on an 3 year old node, which was done because nothing was changed from the already used Tegra, to a custom SoC. T239 might have many similarities to Orin, but it's still a completly different chip with a new tapeout and 8nm would be a 6...

    Unreal Engine 5, [UE5 Developer Availability 2022-04-05]

One reason is expectations. First it seemed UE5 will put all other engines to shame, but at this performance Ubisofts Engines and especially ID-Tech might have better visuals at a given performance. 2nd it's having the same problem as raytracing. Sure it's nice, what geometric detail you can...

    Unreal Engine 5, [UE5 Developer Availability 2022-04-05]

That's exactly the problem i have with UE5. It's extremely demanding, while you hardly see a difference outside of tech demos and it's not only lumen. Look at Remant 2, which is using Nanite without any Lumen...

Nvidia GeForce RTX 40x0 rumors and speculation

I don't think you have the right picture how tsmc or other big contract manufacturers work. All that matters for them is money and the difference in discounts are based on wafer numbers, not on some romantical loyality. The second important metric is timeframe depending on the utilization of...

AMD: RDNA 3 Speculation, Rumours and Discussion

There is never a single bottleneck, it's always a mixture, but the bottleneck will shift with doubling of ALUs. A 3090Ti has much more Gflops, therefore it should be a lot faster than a 6950XT, but it's not, because other bottlenecks are limiting it. The same will happen, when AMD doubles its ALUs.

AMD: RDNA 3 Speculation, Rumours and Discussion

The TMU count per CU/WGP won't change, but now a WGP will have double the ALU count, so the ALU/TEX ratio is halved. This will still improve performance, but it won't double it and the perf/gflop will be much lower. The compute limitation of RDNA2 will shift more to a TMU, whatever limitation as...

AMD: RDNA 3 Speculation, Rumours and Discussion

I'm waiting for the qoute in the angstronomics article, where he's writing about TMU counts or ROP counts?

AMD: RDNA 3 Speculation, Rumours and Discussion

But that's exactly what they're doing, if the data is right. 4096 Shaders in a smaller size chip than 2048 is only possible, if you cut other corners. Just cutting out the Re-Order Buffer isn't enough by far. It's impossible to double the TMU count in such a small chip. TMUs aren't small...

AMD: RDNA 3 Speculation, Rumours and Discussion

In single games it might reach a 6900XT, especially in RT. In a bigger parcour as Hardwareunboxed, it will land below a 6800XT, if not clocked much higher than 3ghz.
