To your example, considering the mere 18% difference in compute performance between the two platforms (i.e. smallest we've ever seen before), I'm not sure expecting much meaningful difference in authored game assets, settings or data to be loaded between the two platforms is realistic.
Crikey! I knew the foundries were getting aggressive, but I think this is perhaps a step too far.
PS3s at 90nm could pull > 200W at the wall.
Some Xbox1Xs do, and do so in a box smaller than a PS4 and without any noise issues at all (whisper quiet™ anyone?).
I'm not sure this 200W limit is...
An explanation of how the bus width and RAM type was arrived at would still be appreciated.
The original post in question stated "we know the RAM type and bus width of the AMD Flute", which now sounds increasingly unlikely that we can say with any confidence we know anything besides the numbers...
How do you infer memory bus width and RAM type from the above?
As far as I can tell, this is a bit of a case of circular Chinese whispers. The "Ariel<-->PS5" connection derives from the the same very source. Komachi himself is the one who introduced this. There were no prior rumours mentioning...
How would memory controller design be configured for something like this to work?
If this was the case, why even show part numbers on the render in the first place? The fact that they went to so much trouble to include portions of the part numbers in the panning shot shows a deliberate intent...
I've been thinking about the Xbox Scarlett teaser video and in particular the Samsung 14Gb/s GDDR6 memory chip part numbers.
It seems there is a mix between 1GB and 2GB chips, although what I'm struggling to understand is how such a setup can work?
Can such a configuration be used to provide a...
I don't particularly think it makes the leak more credible, rather makes it appear less obviously fake. There's very little there that can't be guessed by someone one here for example.
As the title says.
I guess this thread probably belongs in the semiconductor industry forum, but I wanted to focus the discussion on consoles, understanding that the development process for new console generations differs in very specific ways (in terms of the design considerations) from...
This assumes the Pro launched with a higher margin than the original PS4. It may well have done, but I'm not sure how much higher the margins were and how does the additional margin offset the cost of engineering the Pro.
I guess we'll see if a PS5 Pro appears 3yrs into the next generation...
