    Sony PS5 NVME Expansion Options?

There are custom logic to deal with the priority level "shortfall" in regular SSD somewhere in the chain. I have no idea where Mark Cerny address this. We will probably know more after PS5 launches. All we know so far is, they need extra time to test and qualify 3rd party SSDs. EDIT: I took...

    Demon's Souls Remake [PS5]

They have screenshots comparing scenes from both games. Probably an in-between. The original game had an unfinished level (with enemies and NPCs partially done). It was sealed away behind a broken archstone. People are hoping the new project will complete it. Truth to be told, all the...

    Sony PS5 NVME Expansion Options?

I don't think so. e.g., on Apple devices, the SSD controller is also custom (It has additional security-related logic) according to their iOS security whitepaper. ... which is why it is a misnomer to call this a "Fast SSD" solution. It's a sophisticated asset streaming platform; fast SSD is...

    Sony PS5 NVME Expansion Options?

Most of the magic is in the SSD controller (and the software stack) if I read Cerny's presentation correctly. That is partly why they can take 3rd party SSDs. If they are comfortable to go this approach, it would imply they expect 3rd party solutions to exceed Sony's offerings in the long run...

    Demon's Souls Remake [PS5]

Demon's Souls Remake was mentioned by the PS Blog: https://blog.playstation.com/2020/06/11/playstation-studios-first-look-at-9-new-ps5-games/ I think fans want more info about (i) gameplay, and (ii) the atmosphere of the game.

    Sony PS5 NVME Expansion Options?

Minimally, you'll get some advantages with > 825GB capacity (high performance) 3rd party SSDs, plus any speed difference if they go beyond 7GHz for example.

    Sony PS5 NVME Expansion Options?

Sony’s SSD supports 6 priority level, regular ones only have 2. To compensate for this difference, Cerny mentioned briefly that the regular SSDs will need to run at a faster clock >= 7GHz to “match” Sony’s SSD. Because of QA needs, it may be simpler to keep Sony’s SSD around, and then add...

    PS5 == Unreal Engine ;)

I see SackBoy on that list and adjusted my expectation. Perhaps there is no user generated content in this game. It’s a straight MP platformer (?).

    Sony PS5 NVME Expansion Options?

Sony should just come out and clarify. I thought it was “adding” at first, but there is some room for misinterpretation. e.g., “adding” a new SSD could “disable“ the built-in one. The issue here is the mixed 6-priority level and regular 2-priority level SSDs operations. It’s up to how they...

    Sony PS5 NVME Expansion Options?

Internal NVMe expansion would be splendid <3 I wasn’t sure if I should believe it just yet. Do you have a link ?

It sounds like in the future, you can replace the internal drive (matching strict performance criteria), and attach an external one (HDD or SSD) for regular storage/archiving.

    Playstation 5 [PS5] [Release November 12 2020]

Yes, in the PS3 era, some enterprising guy was selling a US$15 kit to route the internal HDD connector to outside the console for a larger drive.

    Playstation 5 [PS5] [Release November 12 2020]

I see. So we deduced that the NVMe expansion is internal. And the cooling system may have to take care of it too (?). Would be great if some journalist type people can confirm for real.

Community Poll: What color will Sony PS5 be?

I didn’t vote but expected a b/w unit. As long as the design has character, I don’t care if people call it pretty or ugly. Considered a missed opportunity to not offer a hole by the side to stick a stock of rose (Like what VW Beetle did). If I get one, I might just do it if I place it vertically.
