I have read a few places that stream processing is ideal for physics calculations hence the potential of the PS3. I wouldn't be surprised if Nvidia and Sony have reached an agreement to offer GPUs with Cell processors to do physics calculations. We could call it a GPPU.
This is not how corporate world works. Nvidia answers to their stockholders and not to the consumer. Price cuts aren't made to satisfy the consumer unless there is a benefit to the stockholder. The same goes for ATI.
edited for grammar because i suck at it.
I disagree with you. As power requirements are getting higher for CPUs and GPUs, it is advantageous to design a chip that is drawing less power and requires a smaller, less noisy fan to keep it at the correct operating temperature. The 7900 gt and the 7600 gt are perfect examples of this. Lower...
I think his initial statement on unified shaders came out a bit harsher than he would have liked. There is undoubtedly some benefit to it and it is clear to him that there is. I think what he is trying to say is hey, it's a good idea, but it does have its drawbacks and we are going to move alot...
And how is he suppose to validate this article? Somehow I don't think ATI or Nvidia is going to share this information. He clearly states this is an educated guess and may not be 100% accurate. It is at least a start to trying to understand how ATI and Nvidia's yields and costs may be affected...
We should wait to see how it is implemented before jumping to conclusions. Perhaps it is using a different methodology for utilizing two cores simultaneously then the standard SLI or Crossfire systems.
I would have to say Nvidia since they are going to be releasing a chip in the near future. I can't see either vendor releasing a chip that doesn't support Vista if Vista is suppose to ship at the end of this year. The product cycle is just too close IMO.
I thought this forum disliked IHVs releasing new cards every three months. Suddenly there is a change in opinion on this? OR does it depend on which IHV is doing it?
