What the Wii U hardware should have been?

I think the Wii-U hardware is fine how it is and this is after going through an initial phase of bewilderment. The focus now should be taking advantage of its shader based/multi-core architecture, which has a lot of potential. GPU particularly comparing to current gen consoles. The framework...

Wii U hardware discussion and investigation *rename

So any recent info on the GPU/CPU Wii-U is using or are the sources still quite weak? Cheers, Nano

How did dreamcast compare to psx/n64?

Technically it destroyed those platforms. Had some headroom too, especially as programmers lean new techniques. Shame it was cancelled so early...

    Was Cell any good? *spawn

Why do people take such a harsh line? The RSX isn't that incapable that it can't produce good graphics. You wouldn't have the extra power from Cell but I doubt games would just look crap. The RSX has the shader power of the Geforce 7800GTX 512MB though it has the lower bandwidth...

    Was Cell any good? *spawn

Well, to me its clear the Cell processor is its biggest asset yet its biggest disadvantage. Almost disastrous direction and definitely hit Sony financially as well as teaching them a hard lesson (taught IBM and Toshiba lessons too though they probably didn't suffer not having a major consumer...

    Nintendo 3DS hardware thread

I'm replying to an old post, but I was just reading over the thread. I'd say it's really a matter of 'politics'. You can get just about anything to work on lower end hardware if you want to. MT Framework isn't the same as what you're getting on 360, PS3 and PC in terms of implementations...

Sony's Next Generation Portable unveiling - PSP2 in disguise

My thinking too. The size and proprietary nature means we don't have to waste money on tiny, generally slow MicroSD chips. Sony also save on licensing fees tied to MicroSD. I'm also hoping to see a 64GB variant, as I'm considering going for downloading titles as opposed to boxed products...

Comparing embedded GPUs in Mobiles to Laptops

Could you clarify which chip exactly you are comparing the PSvita. Also, what brings you to the conclusion about it's performance being equal to it at 280MHz and to the Radeon HD 3200? Thanks.

Comparing embedded GPUs in Mobiles to Laptops

True, the thought did cross my mind, but it's interesting from a numbers perspective. If I'm not mistaken, ImgTec have made the PowerVR SGX chips DX10 & DX10.1 compliant for any application in Laptops or such..

Comparing embedded GPUs in Mobiles to Laptops

So are we talking around 40 Gflops for Mobility Radeon 3200? I think ION is about 52 Gflops In raw terms how many Gflops are we looking at in a Tegra 2, SGX 543 MP2 or SGX 543 MP4 like PSvita? How would the considerations to the efficiency of these embedded mobile chips factor into real-world...

Comparing embedded GPUs in Mobiles to Laptops

What about in comparison to the Intel GMA 4500? Or lower end chips (than the ION) like the Mobility Radeon 3200? I expect these embedded GPUs are very modest in their form, but still it's quite fascinating to see. Do you have any statistics on the flops ratings between these devices? Thanks...

Comparing embedded GPUs in Mobiles to Laptops

Hi all, I have a bit of a question about the recent hand-held GPUs that have been a huge feature in smart-phones, from the PowerVR SGX to the Tegra and Adreno. I have a very good idea about the architectural differences that come to play, but from a performance perspective, how would we...

Sony's Next Generation Portable unveiling - PSP2 in disguise

Kojima/Konami mentioned it in the press conference. http://www.engadget.com/liveblog/live-from-sonys-tokyo-event/ 20fps. As a direct comparison, the RSX *should* be a lot more powerful. Being a multi-core version should give it a comparative performance boost however. When ImgTec revealed...
