That expensive stuff is required about as much as gold-plated case for the console. Though I agree on the general part that the thing is more expensive than consoles but that wasn't the original question.

Agreed. It's nice for input for something you don't use for longer than half a minute at a time and doesn't need elaborate input. Anything else is better served by touchscreens, keyboards and controllers. As an input device for a game it's horrible. Unless all you care about are on-rails...

Our local biggest cellphone seller/service provider seems to be having clearance sale for N9's for "only" €500 for the 64G model (was €750 before). Rumors say lumia 900 should arrive in around a month or two. Currently they don't sell any WP phones here officially.

Was it some 5.xk RPM or 7.2k RPM drive? I took that 100MB/s from my 2TB 5200rpm drives. 7.2k ones are pulling off around 130-ish at similar platter densities. Even better would be if you'd say how many platters did the drive have.

Actually the consoles of this gen were far from 300W. Their power supplies were rated at around 200W-ish peak output, they were consuming less than that on full load.

Considering all HDDs are formated in the factory to remap those bad sectors as needed, what good does it do to redo it at home? It's not like 20 years ago when low-level formatting actually made some sense :)
