^^ given the way it has turned out, I believe the delay was due to GTX580 and GTX 570. It's clear that AMD aimed too low with 69XX. Of course, AMD won't admit it but I believe the last few weeks were spent tweaking the clocks and drivers to make 69XX look somewhat decent against GTX 5XX cards.

The website is Tweaktown... whenever there is a new driver, these guys check for performance gains. But only using one or two cards, I think.

But I would have liked to see an option to disable PowerTune. It has its benefits but just in case users want to push the card to max

Doesn't seem likely. The launch was supposed to be on Nov 23, a week before the arrival of 3D Mark 11. Instead of postponing the launch, which has pretty serious ramifications for business, AMD could have simply released a hotfix on Nov 30.
