I sit in a TSMC info session basically meant to push people to upgrade from 90nm to 65nm.
According to them, the speed increment is about 15% in general and costs about 15% more. Yield expectation given under most normal die size is ~75%.
From the street, nV got about 67~72 fully...
FUD or not, I think it provides a glimpse into the graphic card cost breakdown.
From here, it is very obvious why mid-low end chip still remains 128bit Memory IF.
The ASP of the mid range chips are average 32~38 and the double of memory cost will definitely be very significant. Though, PCB...
The question now is whether we need a stronger competitor in the CPU space or GPU space.
AMD, being AMD pretty much answers that question.
This actually won't be that bad. Every normal consumer needs a CPU. Stronger competition in CPu space helps lower down the prices and gives consumer more...
It was reported on that Sina website one month ago that Intel had already planned the strategy maybe 1 to 2 months ago if the deal does go through. The negotiations between AMD and ATI has been going on for months. Many people think Intel purposedly leaves the highest end chipset market with no...
Well, it seems like there is yet another advantage besides SM3 for 6x00s user compared to x8x0 users.
If Ati utilize shader core to do decode, I wonder why can't they support x8x0 series beside the obvious marketing reason. Maybe it is not worth the effort to support an outdated core, which...
Can we look at it using the perspective you just mentioned? Maybe the introduction of 7800GS signifies that the G70 is actually very close to or at the end of its product lifecycle. In other words, NV is starting to dump the G70 stocks to make room for a soon-to-arrive chip.
So, what does it offer over the DFI nforce4 SLI mobo that warrant the $100 premium?
Piss-poor USB performance together with no SATA-2 is already a definite turn off for me.
Can anyone comment on the driver quality yet, in both win and linux?
That is probably Ati's way of getting out of retailing business by expanding to more country in Europe.
I believe they started expanding retail product to Europe after the announcement of exiting direct retail.
Any one else can comment on the longevity of SM3? It seems that the general consensus is that SM3 will be really short-lived since Vista is around the corner.
For you,
If it is the red side, maybe one or less than one. Well, the green side probably takes more than a group with Kirk as the leader to do it.
Joking aside, Ati is always having more employee than Nvidias. Maybe the retail side business require more work forces?
That is just a lot more elegant that putting extra hardware like a TMDS receiver chips and a FPGA chips on the board to composite the image. The receiver and FPGA chips together will add close to $8 (depend on quantity) to the BOM, let alone an extra PCB design and SKU.
